Shanling UP5 - Our new flagship portable Bluetooth DAC/AMP

If it's set to UAC1.0 and correctly recognized, you can try to run the software update.

OK, that was an experience.

I first tried running the .bat file with admin privileges, couldn't find the device.

Then without admin privileges it found the device but got stuck at 0%, and then eventually complained about the device not responding.

Windows can see it the whole time, but I unplug and plug back in anyway, run the .bat file again without admin privileges, and this time it gets to 100%, I can see the device restart, everything goes down without a hitch.

But my "Version Minor" and "Config Version" went from 0 and 1 to 1 and 2 respectively after the update. Despite the fact that my previous firmware was also 1.6.3. What on earth is that about?

Don't think it fixed my problem though. Device still turns itself off in few seconds despite showing full battery bars (with the last bar blinking while plugged in).

Yes there is and yes you can. People hear me but I don't know if it is very good or not
I was also wondering if you can use the microphone (on-board or an external from a headset) while in DAC mode - connected to a PC via USB C.

I know that the FiiO BTR5 can’t use it’s on-board mic nor the external from a headset while wired working as a DAC but I couldn’t find any info about the UP5. Would be a dealbreaker for me.

No, microphone only works in Bluetooth mode, not available in USB DAC mode.

Is it normal to have less volume when I use my UP5 with Bluetooth than when I use it connected via USB to the computer?
The maximum output should be the same. If you are getting less, there might be something on software side affecting it. Check volume settings on your phone and any options in the apps.

I tried it with uapp, shanling player, YouTube, etc. All of them with max volume on the phone but still the same. I have to go up to around 40 volume steps when I use Bluetooth and around 20 when I use USB. Is there a firmware update available? I'm using v1.6.3 right now.

Same here. This issue has been bugging me since I got my UP5 more than one year back. What I discovered is that when paired to my android phone the UP5 reduces the phone volume to around 75% of max volume. One workaround i've found is to enable bluetooth absolute volume in developer options - after pairing when i increase volume on the UP5 (while media is playing in any app) the phone volume is shown at around 75% and i then use the phone volume toggle to increase to maximum. That's when i discovered this made a really big difference in dynamic range (sound quality and volume is same with USB mode with this workaround). Unfortunately this workaround isn't ideal since it doesn't work with iPhones and iPads and I'm not sure it works with other android phones. As i use this device only in bluetooth mode I do really wish there's a fix but i'm not hopeful since Shanling hasn't cared to issue firmwares for this very imperfect device for quite some time. This issue has really annoyed me since the beginning as i know the really superb sound quality of the UP5 (heck i even prefer the UP5 sq to the Fiio BTR7 with the workaround). I have never cared to ask since no one else has mentioned this issue before.
P.S. I'm on version 1.63. As I've explained it's the UP5 which is lowering the device volume when paired.

I just connected my UP5 to my Fiio M11 Plus by USB then swapped over to LDAC bluetooth, I could not hear any difference in volume.

I had the Fiio set to maximum volume for the output to the UP5 on both USB and bluetooth.

Maybe there is a batch of UP5 with the bug that lowers paired device's volume on bluetooth. Mine definitely has lower volume on bluetooth with either iOS or android devices.

Seem unlikely but who knows.

I just tried my UP5 with my iPhone X and again the volume at any given setting is indistinguishable either via the Lightning port or bluetooth.

Mine in on 1.6.3 firmware.

This is something affected on the side of smartphone, so it can differ from phone to phone or even on different version of phone firmware.

Hmmm... Not sure about this!

Used my UP5 with many Smartphones/Tablets/Laptops and the volume is consistently a lot lower over Bluetooth than wired. It's always been like that since I got the UP5.

One of the main reasons I got rid of it actually.

UP5 heats up way too much when using usb mode with a pc. On Bluetooth, it stays relatively cool/mild warm. But on wired the level of heat is concerning. I'm afraid this will affect the longevity of the device and battery.
You can try to disable charging if you think it's getting too warm.

Hi. All codecs are enabled, but my phone and tablet known as working with aptX HD and LDAC don't see these codecs on the UP5 side.

How to resolve the issue?
