For connecting to certain special devices (such as Switch), UA5 must be switched to UAC1.0 mode. To switch to UAC1.0, press and hold down the wheel while connecting UA5 to the device.
Thank you. I put it in UAC1.0 mode and it works now. I'm plugged my HD800s in via balanced 4.4mm cable and was pleasantly surprised that this little thing can drive it quite effortlessly. Pretty happy with this product.
Yes, it would work with them just fine, especially if you run it in Balanced mode (which should be given for such high-end IEMs)

It was decision of software team. The alternative firmware is available if you face any issue with Android phones, there is no reason for others to install it.
@Shanling I understand that the firmware is available on demand (thank you for having provided it to me much earlier!). It is not a scalable solution, however, because not everyone who has this problem will be on Head-fi, and even if on Head-fi may not be aware of this thread. I am very confident that there are other Android (especially Samsung) owners who have been frustrated with the bugs they experience when they use their phones with the UA5 which could result in poor customer experience and possibly affect their future purchase decisions. It could also generate negative word of mouth (for example before I was aware of the beta firmware I had posted negative feedback in the comments sections of otherwise positive UA5 YouTube reviews).
