Shanling Q1 - Retro-Styled Portable Hi-Fi Music Player

We do not plan any such adjustments for Q1.
Thats really a shame! I want to reiterate what has been previously said, that it would be great if you could make the OS open source, since there is considerable interest to improve and update the UI and add more features. The Q1 is really great and this would greatly lengthen its lifespan.

We follow the given licensing of the system, so you can get the kernel from us if you wish. That's why there is now the Rockbox for Q1.

No it is not.

Rockbox does not use Linux or your kernel. Rockbox on the Q1 was based on Rockbox for the FiiO M3K which has very similar hardware.

You could release the source code of the Shanling player app which you fully own. This would allow people to further enhance the player with niche features you do not want to add.

We have been asked to provide kernel for Q1 for purpose of rockbox development and we did so. I didn't follow up on it, so sorry if I was mistaken.

We do not plan to make any other parts of the system public, as we are still using this platform for our players.

I truly hope you are still using this platform. My Q1 and M0 are great portable players and I hope you will do more devices like this. There are not that many options between high-end (expensive) and ultra cheap.

You provided the M0 kernel sources, which was mildly helpful, but I still had to disassemble & decompile the real Q1 kernel after dumping it from onboard flash because of all the differences between the players. I know you said you simply provided what your engineers tell you is correct, but they are wrong. Offering "approximately the same" kernel sources doesn't comply with the GPL.

I have indeed tried reinstalling the original firmware and no, that did not work.
illegalval on the rockbox forums gave an RB bootloader backup from a v2.2 device to somebody who was having the same problem as you, and restoring from that apparently fixed the problem. I asked for illegalval's backup on the RB forums so I can hopefully get to the bottom of this and fix whatever's going wrong.

I suspect restoring illegalval's backup on your player will put it back to a vanilla state.
