Shanling M9 Announced - Flagship High-End Portable Player

Will check more on the Tidal and MQA playback, what might be causing it.

Thanks, don't forget to mention this is regarding EasyLounge but it should be the same problem.

Alright, got response from them, seems they are now aware of M9 case and will sort it out for you.

Since you all seem to have so much experience with Shanling, is there a way to limit the max. battery charge to less than 100% on M9? FiiO M17 has that option to prolong the battery life.

We have no setting for this.

Just one question - Google play market and apple music crashes on start.

Are you on V1.4 firmware? And this is important step after update:
Go to system settings > Aps & Notifications > See All Apps > Quickstep > Storage & cache > Clear Storage (confirm)

Yes, i have fix it, but just one way works - reset to default settings > install play market and delete two last updates. Now all works fine. Same with apple music, but without deleting updates.

I do enjoy the OverEars mode on the M9. Helps drive IEMs like the FitEar DC nicely. Been running it at volume 20. :)

Over Ears Mode is powerful, I run the Elysium in that mode on L gain at volume 45/50 and it's a charm... this speaks volume.

UAPP seems to be working properly now.

Still getting random clipping and sound loss on Tidal though. It's annoying having to restart the system several times a day.

This is my exact experience using Tidal on M8. At least UAPP was usable, otherwise M8 was an expensive paperweight given my main use case (streaming).

So, no issues at all with the UAPP at all? And it bypasses the Android driver now?

When I searched for an artist on UAPP on M8 the virtual keyboard appeared and pushed everything else up on screen so you couldn’t see what you were typing and you had to come out of the app and go back in. Oddly a search then worked second time round. It was very annoying and happened every time. I assumed that with a bigger screen on M9 this would be sorted. Have you encountered anything like this on M9?

Thanks for the info, I’m still on the fence you see!

Yes, it seems to be bypassing the Android driver and diplays the correct sample rate.

No issues with the virtual keyboard on UAPP.

Roon playback does not work.

Seems like some of the issues from M8 is still present in the M9.

When I edit the quick panel, this is how it appears.

Look at the bottom half.

So buggy for a $2800 DAP.

@Shanling - do you have any confidence that these issues will be ironed out? I’m toying with upgrading to the M9 (even after the shambles of an experience I’ve had with the M8 software issues), but I’m struggling at the minute. If only the software could match the Shanling sound

Thanks for this. A really good review.

Just to clarify then, whilst the M9 improves on many aspects, creating a more balanced, refined sound (etc), am I right in saying it still shares some of that warm euphoric flavour of the M8 and doesn’t lose that ‘house sound’ completely? Like, it’s still in the same family sound wise, yeah?
