Shanling M9 Announced - Flagship High-End Portable Player
Jan 23, 2022 at 10:05 PM Post #571 of 1,355
Anyone have issues with their M9 where in the middle of listening, you hear a static and the device abruptly goes silent? When this happens, I have to restart the device to get it to work again. It's frustrating and it happens roughly 2-3 times a day. It usually happens on Tidal app, and once I lose sound, it doesn't matter what music/player app i open after that. I lose sound completely until system reset.
Is it Tidal/MQA only? What other apps you had this encounter?

I assume V1.4 firmware?

Nope, I don’t use Tidal though.

This is strange, we give leather case with each unit of M9. It just comes in small box on the side.
I would recommend to contact your seller about this.

For any questions about settings, please check the setup guide on our website: https://en.shanling.com/article-Android665Setup.html
(And let me know what should I add)

@Shanling Well I had an answer from the reseller today... here is the google translate :

Hello,

We are very surprised by Shanling's response on the forum because the leather case mentioned by the brand was never delivered with the player.
It is neither announced in the list of accessories supplied nor even present in the product photos sent by the manufacturer. We make no mention of it on our detailed product sheet.
No cover was delivered to us with the Shanling M9.
It is the same on all the M9 unboxing videos that we could find online:

https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=607580690450598

There is no "small box on the side" with the Shanling M9s we received from the manufacturer.
We are approaching their services to clarify this.

Hoping to have answered your request as well as possible, we remain at your entire disposal for any further information.

Best,

Florent V

So basically I am stuck in a circle there where manufacturer says talk to reseller which says they'll talk to manufacturer... I hope this gets sorted out.
Hope the case becomes available at some point, all french customers from son-video and EasyLounge will have the same issue.

audiophonic, another French store, indicates that the leather case comes with it.

it's not serious in Son-video.

Yes, i'm on the latest firmware.

And still waiting for UAPP update and Roon isn't working at the moment, so problem is mainly with Tidal.

Thanks.

Same happens to my M9 on Tidal, usually when turning the volume up or down. The volume knob has some wobble and feels different depending on whether turning it up or down; not sure whether it relates, but it does not feel like $2.8k quality. Firmware 1.4.

While the M9 build is impeccable, the wobbling volume wheel is clearly disappointing after the M8 which had rock solid wheel with good resistive strength.
But I don't think it's the cause.

I am running Qobuz and never had this issue so far...

Since you all seem to have so much experience with Shanling, is there a way to limit the max. battery charge to less than 100% on M9? FiiO M17 has that option to prolong the battery life.

I looked as well but didn't find it, interested

Guys, i got my m9, and it's amazing. Sounds big, but a little not so colored as m8, faster, detailed and his macro sounds larger not only on lows. I like m8 sound, but it's new step.

And... Amazing speed on android 10.

Just one question - Google play market and apple music crashes on start.

Earphones tested now - CA Solaris 19 and headphones Audeze LCD-X 21.

Larger review soon on my YouTube channel, on Russian. But after i will publish English review too.

Was just about to upgrade from M8 to M9. Been quite unhappy with the software bugs in the M8 so I’m quite disappointed that these don’t all appear to have been fixed on the newer device (I assumed that moving to Android 10 would have fixed these darn Tidal capability problems but sounds like they have not!! When I use M8 on Tidal even a restart doesn’t fix the issues and I just get constant clipping sounds through all IEMs).

Do we know how soon UAPP will be sorted for M9 yet (bypassing android driver)? (Or is there a direct contact to ask for an update on this?) I intend to use UAPP exclusively if @Shanling can’t seem to ever sort Tidal out on their devices.

*sigh* I’m very happy with the description of the sound of this device (from the impression in here), but I’m teetering tbh. It’s a lot of money for something that only works for some of the time (something that I’m all so familiar with with using the M8 for nearly a year). Sure, I might not experience difficulties as some appear not to, but I know my luck with shanling devices; I’ll be one of the unlucky ones.

Reports of sketchy volume wheel now too? Uh oh
