Can You tell me is there any hiss when the volume is 0 or 1 (balance/tidal online)?

I am the hiss master 😛 I can confirm M8 is the most silent hiss free dap ever existed

Have you tried Calyx M? That statement of yours is bold. You can say is the most silent hiss free dap that you tried, but I am pretty sure there are other daps that are on par with Shanling

Never heard calyx M and yes my statement is 100% right my tia noirs are very sensitive they pick hiss if its there. I have done a lot of dap rolling already trust me M8 is the most silent I ever heard its like a black hole you hear nothing.

I dont have andromeda but I am 100% sure it wont hiss, I know my noirs very well.
I have not tested se for hiss, rule of thumb is if balanced dont hiss then se wont either.

It is nice to know the M8 is silent and don't hiss because it is one of the daps that I am interested in trying one day

I know you had cayin daps before so of I judge correctly you like warm daps then you definitely need to try M8. It has a lot of good feature.

While there are a couple of haters toward A&K, I will say that their UI is the standard. Sound quality is very subjective, but the amount of polish that goes into A&K is obvious. I have had a few DAPs over the years, and have found the experience of the A&K UI the best. The R8 was not a bad UI, I had other issues with mine and ultimately had to return it.

That said, I told you guys if you say the SQ is that good I would buy one on the spot, well I did, it should be here by the weekend or Monday at the latest. Sad thing is I won't be here on Monday, so we pray for the weekend.

I have had the M15, R8 and have followed this hype train since its release. The hype is strong but we will see if it is deserved. There is only one more thread with more hype, the DX300, but it isnt released and the hype there is turning me off. Thus is Head-Fi....talking about issues and sound quality and what it can and can't do before it is even released.

Looking forward to your thoughts on the M8. I've had the M15 for some time; haven't had extensive time with the M8 yet. It is a different sound than the M15, but I haven't been done a direct comparison. I'm leaning towards the more neutral M15 as I think it fits my preferences more, but I've also gotten used to the UI. M8 software does need a bit more work.

Would the M8 be right for someone in their 60's with some loss of high frequency range and tinnitus? I'm a drummer and like to listen for the hi-hat and ride cymbal on jazz recordings as well as all the instruments. Thanks

I'm in my 50s and suffer with tinnitus in my right ear, which has been acting up a fair bit this year. It's spoilt my music enjoyment and I've gone through a few players and IEMs this year to see if certain combos help. I've landed on the M8 and Fibae 7 and so far I haven't had a lot of issues and the enjoyment is back. It's worked for me, and may or may not work for you, but it could be worth a try. I'm so glad I bought it.

You seriously need to fix dsd playback, I am having crazy pops and cracks randomly its not acceptable at all sorry.

I personally dont care about mqa but that dont work properly either...

@Shanling

Ok I HAVE HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT

I found a solution for mqa and dsd playback to be perfect and flawless playback. YES YOU heard right even mqa works!
All you have to do is switch to prime mode and voila ! Its crazy now even dsd and mqa sounds so much better! But dang the dsd is sooo good I am melting on the dad timbers and colours.

At high gain and balanced, volume 0 or 1, as I switch play and pause, I can hear the circuit (very very faint hiss) turn on. There's no difference in audible noise when you switch WiFi on and off. At volume 2 (assuming you have something playing), I can't pick up noise. This is far better than SP1000 (much more audible in balanced) and Cayin N6ii (SE was still worse than M8). This is one of the best pairing I had for Andro, beating my prior favorite N6ii+A01(SE).

I have a big question regarding burn in on m8. Since this a module swappable dap, does that mean we can do only 1 time burn in? Or each module has to be burned snd backed for 200hours each 🧐🤔

And the Se jack how does that differs from the balanced? It operates different components inside?

@Shanling

You are pretty much just switching connectors themselves. If you want to "burn in" each connector, you would need to do one by one.

Single-ended output is using just one half of amplifier circuit, but both DACs.

Using Shanling Music app? Anybody else having such issues?

MQA for M8 is not yet fully implemented.

Aaa but thats the question is it really a thing we should bother about? Burning in the modules? As the dap got already burned in with the other module I always use.

I am not kidding my shanling app plays mqa and unfolds its to 356khz and in android Mode its not working there is sound issues and also dsd has crackling and pops but when I switched to prime mode to by pass android its all working like a charm even sound better.

The prime mode improve sound quality drastically for dsd and mqa not the rest.

Whatever works in Prime mode should work in Shanling app in AndroidOS Right ? Because Prime mode is Shanling App itself without too many other androids in the back ground.

well you try it and you will see, to me prime mode and android mode is 2 different operating software modes. And there is a reason why there is a prime mode, to avoid android glitches that could affect the music playback. You try it and see I hear it its very obvious. I dont experience cracks and pops in dsd anymore and mqa works flawlessly. I know its weird but prime mode fixs all those bugs that you get in android mode.
