Hi,
You can of course use the player with a SD card and use the included Shanling "Eddict" App.
And you can of course live with all of it's limitations.
I assume the soud of the M8T will be spectacular (I have the original M8 and it sounds damn good).

To retrieve my files from a media server I tend to use "Symfonium".
And that one is not available for Android versions prior to 10 or 12...
I also love UAPP, and that one is still available from Android 6.
But when the dev decides to stop support Android prior to 14 ?

Besides, the streaming Apps (Qobuz) can from one day to another change thjeir API's and make it incompatible with Android prior to version X.
A lot of users of the original M8 report problems with some streaming apps.
I can not confirm as I do not use the M8 anymore....
I am much to fed up with the brand (and I used to love it : I owned the M2x, the M3x, the M6, the M6 Pro, the M8, the EA-5, the H7 and the EM-3).
And especially it's lack of support and the way the representative acts on this forums. It's reply always is "The problem has been reported to our software team". Who will do nothing... I wonder if they even have a real software team

The problem with a brand like Shanling, is that they are hardware manufacturers at the beginning.
They indubabbly know how to produce marvelous souinding devices.
But I think they haven't understood that with the newer devices, the software part has grown as important as the hardware part.
Probably even more important.
But they still do not face that...
It will come. But for now, I'll go the safe way...

Does it have a line out to feed an amp? Is there a desktop mode? Can it charge and line out at the same time?

Hi,

Here's a thing that I can read on tyhe description :
"Inside the unit hides upgraded Android system, now running on Android 13 and providing many years of software updates and problem-free app compatibility".

Does that mean that Shanling plans to provide like 3 majors Android upgrades up to say Android 16 ?

If not, how can you say that you will have "several years of problem-free app compatibility" ?
How can you make certain that the developers of third-party apps will provide compatibility with Android 13 for "many years" ?

Just wondering.
If you promise to upgrade to A14 and A15, I'll get one when the A14 upgrade is released...

Regards.

Well, maybe I'm too late on this party, but I bought m8 few days ago and I really like this device.
I owned Sony 1z before the m8 and I don't think that I lost something in audio quality, the same tonality, the same detail and even more, but with normal weight and more or less actual hardware. I don't care about old Android, uapp is working and that more than enough.
The natural sound is really wonderful and I could listen my favorite music for long time. Still a great DAP.

I own both. I like the 1Z more, as I feel the bass is a bit more visceral, but I honestly don't feel like I miss a lot with the m8, and I get to use it with more headphones, due to the power. Also, streaming app downloads. Love my m8....

Somehow I agree with you about bass, I tested them with IE600 and Focal Azurys, but the highs on M8 have more details and the whole picture is more pleasent on M8
I go back and forth depending on what I'm or headphones I'm listening to. I do prefer the overall tone of the Sony, but again, not by much. For my headphones, the extra power of the M8 definitely drives things far better. I really do love them both, and doesn't bother me that they overlap more than others

It has Line-out software setting for use with external amps.

No desktop mode.

It can charge and play at the same time.

@Shanling
Yet another good thing to point:
Where does the output signal come from for Line-Out mode? after LPF or after BUFs?
There is no special circuit for this, the line-out is software settings and uses same circuit.

Hello, please can someone help me. The support app on my M8 doesn't work, when I try to open it, it closes automatically, it shows: "Support has stopped", and the Support app version is 1.0.

I see that the latest system version is v1.75, and mine is only 1.69. I'm trying to update it manually, already downloaded the files on the website but I can't find a way to apply the update. Help please.

NPAudio fixed mine whilst in for modification, I was on v1.66 and it was doing exactly the same "Support has stopped" so couldn't update it. I'm now on v1.75 and the support app opens as normal.
