Just ask to download older version. Some people may have it downloaded, and use Google drive to share with you. Then install it. The problem would be to find the firmware as shanling doesn’t have it available
Ah. Simple. Thanks!

FW 1.41 is actually still available on Shanling's site on the normal M8 downloads page, if anyone wants to have it. Might be good to have a personal copy

Sorry if this has been posted already but does anyone else have any problems using the outside playback buttons when the screen is turned off? Mine don't work at all unless the M8 screen is on.
Maybe try Settings -> General -> Key-lock Settings?

I received a Shanling M8 yesterday and have sat down for an initial listen, very impressed so far. Able to drive the Stellias to high levels of volume, and sound great so far with my intended use for it being out and about with Empire Ears LX. So impressed, the thought crossed my mind as to whether it can replace my IFI Pro IDSD. Perhaps comparisons to a full desktop unit such as the IFI are unfair, but the M8 does get within the ballpark in terms of what I am able to detect for A/B listening, yet falling behind overall in clarity and the impact of the IFI making it a marginally less engaging listen. That said, were I to of never heard the IFI I would have no problem having the M8 as a all-in-one single solution for home and outside use, certainly it is for me very close to the Chord Hugo 2 which I have spent time with.

That's a pretty serious endorsement. I have not heard that iFi model, but I am not surprised you find them comparable. The only way my stationary system (upgraded as the M8 outclassed what I had before) exceeds the Shanling is in pure power. Which, btw, none of my pared back stable of 'phones require...

Just to chime in while lurking...I've had my M8 over a year now, and I love it more now than I ever have...I've used it every single day. just got the LCD-2C a few weeks ago, sounds great on the M8...everything does...

If no System wide EQ then is possible to make the Firmware to Support equalizers from playstore at least ?

At the worst scenario can I try to root the device with magisk for installing sound mods and post the method on headfi ?

Is any problem with that ?

Sure, if you have some mod for it, feel free to post it.

Is Apple Music able to stream on M8?
Yes with Hires-Lossless 24bit/192kHz without problem. Love it.

Short question, does M9 sound as same as M8?

Short question, does M9 sound as same as M8?

Far be it from me to know specifics, but IIRC, Shanling has said there will be sonic differences but they haven't yet let us know the details. M9 being larger than M8 in, I believe, every dimension, has me speculating that they may have used more internal real estate to maximize sonics, among the other upgrade.

Whatever the case, I expect it will sound good and earn high marks for SQ.

Short answer, no, it's different.

On paper, they might look similar, as we have same DACs and same components in amplifier section. But It's now all integrated into single thicker board, working with more capacitors and with more optimized power supply. We believe it sounds better than M8.

M9 also ads new hardware level gain adjustment, which changes how gain adjustment works on the player and should offer better results with demanding headphones.
