Shanling M6 PRO - New version coming Summer 2021
Jul 18, 2020 at 12:49 AM Post #256 of 959
@Shanling

I know sound is most important, but some us want the device to look as premium as it cost. On that note, I just wanted to share a little constructive feedback to make your M6 PRO look more premium.

1. Please make this in black.

2. Please use way less gold icons and text on the back. Looks cheap when over done.

3. Don’t make the circle around your logo, or square around the icons/text, looks like styling from 2000.

4. Full screen, no bezels please! (I personally don't buy devices with bezels anymore because I know if I wait a bezel-free version is right around the corner)

Actually, the M6 looks way better because you didn't try so hard to make it look premium. Just make the M6 PRO look like M6, lol. Guess that's not a possibility now that it's released already though?

Please excuse the very basic questions (and apologies if this is covered elsewhere) but does the Shanling really only have one SD slot and handle only 512GB? While I'm currently still happy with my Pioneer XDP 300R, I tend to keep an eye out for new developments, and if worst came to worst and my Pioneer died tomorrow, this would be something of a deal breaker. I know it seems a lot, but my Pioneer can handle, at least, 800GB, and the Fiio M11 Pro seems to be able to handle up to 2TB.

Also, while I've heard good things about the Fiio M11 Pro vs Shanling M6 Pro sounds, my experience with Fiio (the X5ii and X5iii) was not good -- the X5ii had, to my ears, dead and dull sound, while the latter was so bug-ridden I had to return it. What are people's opinions on the sound of the Fiio vs the Shanling? Thanks.

My M6 Pro handles offline Tidal downloads to a 1TB SD no problem and that's all I need with only one slot

To be fair Fiio did the best they could with what they thought was a good design in both hardware and software with their version of sound tuning at the time. X5iii was their first android platform and unfortunately the hardware wasnt good. Which led to some clunky slow software response. It seems your into a less clinical type of sound and more into your musical full bodied tuning.

I can't speak for the Fiio M11 pro there is some reading online that compare the two but I have had my Shanling M6 pro since it launched. I can confidently say it is a very good player and has consistently performed for me day in and day out. I also own the Fiio M15 and the days of slow clunky user interface with clinical sound is gone.

Shanling sound has always been consistent and they don't change too much on their sound formula. Sound quality of the M6 pro is the widest of any of their players and has a slightly warm tuning with a very immersive dimensional sound. It does extremely well with both earphones and headphones. UI is fast and they are quick to launch updated firmware to make the player even better.

As for my Fiio M15 I did a comparison between the two players a while ago and I still stand by that statement. I own both for a reason. I am happy with both players. They are different enough in sound to warrant keeping both. I still use my M6 pro much more than my M15 however.

in what quality does tidal master manage (mqa)? thanks

It will be treated like any other non-MQA DAC/player, the MQA file be be unfolded by Tidal app and played as any other file.

Black one is coming  And I will be sure to share your opinions with our team of designers.

M6 Pro supports in theory up to 2TB Micro SD cards.

Thanks for getting our M6 Pro.

For the Tidal and Spotify, do you have them installed directly from Play Store or through some apk?
You can try to make sure other music apps are closed when using these streaming services.
Thanks for the reply.
They both seem to be working OK now after a couple of factory resets. I've tried installing from both Play Store and the pre-installed APKPure - I've found that the most stable is Tidal from APKPure, and Spotify from Play Store. Not sure why this would be the case...

Love the sound of the M6 Pro by the way, great job!
I've gone from an M0 to a (Fiio) M6, now your M6 Pro. Not deviating from Shanling now!

@Shanling

Found another issue with Spotify. I'd been saving music to the device storage, but wanted to use the SD card instead.
The app crashes when I try to select the SD card (or crashes before I get chance to change storage location). Please see video to see what I mean: youtu.be/Ge-m5tDwAko
As mentioned before, the app is installed via the Play Store.

I'm able to save Tidal tracks to the SD card (and other FLAC files), so I don't think it's an issue with the SD card

Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply. Having come from a Cowon X7 (and an iRiver HP40 before that) I just nver heard the thrilling sound that others claimed for the Fiio X5ii - it always sounded as if singers had bags over their heads. I loved the idea of the X5iii, but ended up rebooting it four times within a half hour bus journey, which is when I knew I'd had enough (it also used to really mess up my music files, which I'd never had a problem with before) Hopefully my Pioneer will last a bit longer. I've just pimped it out with Poweramp as an audio player rather than the default, which gives it a whole new look. I'm now retired and, without my daily commute, I don't use it as much as I used to, and couldn't justify spending money I don't really have on a new one if I really don't need it. But, I dream....

Thanks again.

With the new firmware I'm having trouble selecting USB Configuration when I'm plugging my M6 Pro to may laptop using cable data. I want to transfer files but I can't change from charging to MTP. Somehow the USB configuration is not showing anymore when I drag down the menu from the upper screen. Is it because I'm using PRIME Mode?

Yes, in prime mode USB storage connection is not available. You need to switch back to Android mode for this.

If you referring to my post about MQA for Shanling M6Pro with USB Audio Player PRO, you need to buy it from Google play store.
First, you need to buy the App itself, and then inside of the App, you buy MQA usability.
One of my best discoveries and I think it must go on any modern DAP because it can be used with Bit perfect output for the player itself or USB dongles or amps.
Also it adds MQA to Shanlig M6 Pro.

hi xkoo
may you elaborate further if UAPP can unfold to 88/96khz , or to 176/192khz ?
regards
