Shanling M6 Player - New version with ESS DACs coming soon

Is the M6 silent with sensitive iem's like Andromeda?

Liked the M0 so much I am interested in this, looking for a player with offline tidal one day...

M0 is really unique with its minimal background noise. For all our players, we try to get as close to that performance as possible. Can be little bit challenging due to more powerful amplifiers, added Wi-Fi and overall more busy insides. For example for that reason we area dding bunch of internal shielding. Same attention was put into M6 output.

We actually have Andromeda for testing, I personally use my Noble Katana for testing hiss(and sometimes they are even more sensitive than Andromeda).

I am very reluctant to purchase new generation DAP's like the M6 being your first Android DAP. After prolonged delays in firmware releases for the M0 which caused me to sell it. The thought of going through this again with a much more expensive DAP and the likely growing pains Shanling will go through adopting Android. I am looking at the M5S if there is a price drop but I know that your Linux based DAP's still need work. Spliting development between your MTouch Linux based DAP's and new Android DAP's concerns me.

Several times you used your small software team as a reason for long delays in firmware updates. How much worse will it be with trying to update both Linux and now Android based DAP firmware's going forward.

I fully understand your concerns towards our first Android player, of course there is bunch of other Android based DAPs from which you can choose.

The shanling m6 supports DSD 256, right? But from the spec sheet of AK4495SEQ, it only support up to DSD 128 (5.6MHz, cmiiw). So my question is, does the M6 downsample DSD 256 into DSD 128? Or it uses DoP for DSD 11.2MHz?

Thanks in advance.

On top of what you says , they yet can't manage to make proper volume control on their "flagship M5S" . I surmise M6 will fallow M5S fate . Plenty of problem reports , plenty of excuses , plenty of promises + terrible volume control and all that after money collected from customers with terrible warranty service . SHanling is right , spend elsewhere no need to feed them with your money

We decided to limit it to DSD128 and not deal with D2P playback of DSD256.

M6 version 2.5 firmware

File size: 593MB

Release time: September 30, 2019

Developer: ShanLing

Download M6 Manual V1.0

M6 V2.5 firmware update content

1, solve the problem of occasional connection to WiFi (this function requires OTA upgrade and then restart the system to take effect);

2, optimize the file scanning speed, file scanning is greatly improved, especially in the same folder songs;

3. Optimize the sliding speed of all song lists, and optimize the problem of not following the hand;

4. Increase the playback logic of the previous song;

5. Add the file list to display the song being played;

6, optimize the scanning file incomplete scanning problem (mainly for song files below 60S);

7. Optimize the random play mode. Click on the previous track to display the last one in the queue. Click again and play only from the beginning. There is no effect problem in the previous track.

8. Fix the noise problem in some cases when playing DSD Native mode;

9. In the state of repairing the interest screen, switching the previous song to play the silent problem;

10. Optimize the problem that the power-saving shutdown function does not take effect under special functions;

11. Optimize the NTP service and cancel the encryption device function in the setup;

12. Optimize the TP algorithm to fix the screen skipping problem under occasional conditions;

13. Solve other bugs;

Upgrade method
1. OTA online upgrade (when the number of upgrades is too large, it will seriously affect the update speed)

Click on "Technical Support" - "Firmware Upgrade" - "Online Upgrade". When the system detects that there is updateable firmware, click Update.

2, manual card brush upgrade (recommended)

Download the firmware in Shanling official website or Baidu cloud, and then upgrade the file with the suffix "M6_V2.5 upgrade firmware package.zip" (directly into the M6 as an upgrade file, do not decompress), and put the M6 body memory into the whole. Or an external memory card (recommended in the root directory). Click "Technical Support" - "Firmware Upgrade" - "Local Upgrade", browse the folder, select the downloaded "M6_V2.5 Upgrade Firmware Package.zip" upgrade file, and wait for the update.

* Retain at least 20% of power and 1G space for firmware upgrades;

Interessted in some impressions too. Especially about tonality. Sony ZX300 is a bit dull and unexciting sounding due to its Class D Amp. M11 a bit digital and clinical. But i havent heard the rest...
I might be getting the M6 in for a review. If/when I do I will share some early impressions and maybe a quick comparison with the M11. Very curious to see how the M6 will compare.
