You can use your iPhone with M3s in this set up, but audio quality will be limited by the Bluetooth implementation on M3s, which allows only SBC codec in receiver mode.

Our new generation of players, M0 and M5s, supports more advanced codes. But with your iPhone you would still be stuck at AAC, in theory not using full potential of Tidal files.

For our new system, we prepared more detailed user manual, that will tell you little bit more about the items in system.

But if you want to learn more about basic terms used in modern audio, like what is gain and DSD, I can only recommend you to go on Google. Some of these terms has easy explanation, some of them can take articles.
I think it would be very useful if you produced a User Guide like that for the M3s - surely it can't be too hard to do?

I'm also wondering how well the M3s will work with the HiBy on my Xiaomi Mi 8 phone. I don't wish to stream Spotify or anything else, but I would like to be able to receive phone calls while listening to the DAP. (I use FLAC files.)

What would you suggest is a good amp to use with the M3s?

Ok, I've read most of the M0 manual, and that is exactly what I need for the M3s - in fact it would not be too hard to convert and modify the M0 to M3s manual - much of it applies to the M3s. What would also be very helpful is a Glossary of terms in the back for things like "DSD to PCM". By having it at the back it won't interfere with those people who know and understand these terms, but others - like me - can still find out what something means without having to fool around with Google which can take *quite some time*.

Manufacturers need to bear in mind that some people just want to listen to music without becoming an expert in terminology, just like some people want to drive a car from A to B, without needing to be a Mechanical Engineer.

Even if your Mi 8 sent phone call audio to the M3s, you wouldn't be able to reply - since Shanling has not implemented an ADC (Analog to Digital Converter) input circuit for Mic and Remote Control signals (i.e.- there's not a 3.5mm TRRS jack, with the 2nd Ring being the Input pin).

Hmmm, just went to the Shanling downloads to update the firmware (mine has 1.40). I assume I can just go straight to 1.7 version and skip 1.5, 1.6 but when I open the PDF for instructions it is only in Chinese (I clicked the "English" button)

EDIT: Google Translate to the rescue. For those who need to know what to do, it is pretty simple. After unzipping the downloaded folder, connect the DAP to the computer and copy the update.upt file to the SD card of the DAP. Then go to System Setting, System Update and it takes perhaps a minute to update.

So now I have Wheel Sensistivity mode (4 settings, but all seem to be the same?) and Lyrics Mode. Apparently a couple of Bluetooth issues have also been fixed.

Ok, thanks for that. So it sounds like HiBy is just for streaming?

Well, if you install the HiBy Music Player / HiBy Link app on your phone, all it does is allow you to control the Music Player software on your M3s.
In the M3s Blutooth settings, you select whether you're in regular Bluetooth mode, or in HiBy Link mode.
When in HiBy Link mode, the M3s transmits the list of Tracks (Folder mode, or Library mode), the Album Cover Art, and the Current Volume setting to the phone, and the phone transmits the Track selection, the Play/Pause/Fwd/Rew, and Vol+/Vol- control signals to the M3s.
HiBy Link allows you to put the M3s in a pocket or pouch, with your earphones connected, and control it from your phone.

Anybody paired up the m3s with ifi xDSD ?
How does it compare to m3s + c5 ?

I can confirm M3s works lovely with iFi xDSD, we have one in our office.

@Shanling I get loud pops when I skip tracks playing DSD in Native when connected to an external DAC. Is there anything that you guys can do to fix that?

Does it also shows with DoP?

Would it be digital out or usb-c output to ifi xdsd ?
Is there any sq difference between the two ?

Only digital out on M3s is USB-C.

I do not get the loud clicks in DoP, only with Native. Which is too bad, because it has the most “open” sound of the three options.

Will report to HiBY to take look at it.
