Hi guys, a question about using the M3S with external DAC/amps and battery life.

My M3s is new, barely a month old. When I use it with my ifi iDSD BL dac, the battery will drop to 3 bars from full within an hour usage. This is with the screen off. Without the DAC (with iems plugged into the M3s), battery stays at full after 1 hr usage. Does using an external DAC drain more battery from the player?

The DAC has it's own battery and is fully charged, it shouldn't be drawing power from the M3S.

Just to double check, have you installed the correct firmware (version b) on the iDSD and are you turning it on before connecting it to the M3s?

I've been using it for 2 hours straight with the iFi xDSD via USB C to USB A cable, 100 volume, playing Hi-Res music, and with Bluetooth on using HiBy Link. The battery icon hasn't changed at all yet and is still at full battery.

I didn't even know the M3S supports digital out via the USB port. It doesn't say it does that in the product page, nor the user manual.

It definitely does support digital out. My IFi LED changes color when I switch from DSD to 24bit and 16bit tracks on the M3S.

Just to check, do you always turn on the iFi before connecting the USB cable?
Also, what cable are you using? There might be some problem with pinout.

Yeah I guess I misread the product page. When I was looking before, I was looking for S/PDIF via USB C, which it doesn't support like the Cayin DAPs. It does support USB output though.

Yes, I always turn on the iFi first before connecting the M3S. Using Anker cable - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01COOQIKU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That Anker cable fits in the iDSD? I wasn't sure about the rounded corners so I opted to buy the Amazon Basics cable instead, and it seems to be working just fine with the xDSD.

This cable is super stiff though. I can't use the xDSD with my phone using this cable because it's way too stiff and I feel like it'll break if I bend it that much.

Hi guys, sorry if I bother you with a couple of questions but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer:
1) Does it work as an external DAC on a PC using an usb-c to usb-c cable?
2) Does it work on linux using the setup as of 1? Does it work on linux at all?

Thanks and sorry again :no_mouth:
To answer my own question: it work with both windows and linux using an usbc to usbc cable. Liking it so far

Hello I've had the Shanling M3S for more than a month now. So far very happy with my purchase. I use a AK x JH Audio Michelle Limited with it and soon planning to get an Audioquest Nightowl as my headphones (I've listened with them together and they sound good and perhaps I'll be picking up the Chord Mojo to go with it).

Although I just listen to music most of the time, I also watch movies/shows on my phone while commuting.

I'm very happy that I can actually connect my phone to the Shanling via Bluetooth but I hear a very noticeable delay during playback, this also happens when trying to play games where it will be more obvious since you're clicking on menus with a sound feedback and it's obviously delayed.

I've also tried using the M3S as a DAC for my PC (using USB-C to USB-A) and hear a very noticeable delay when trying to watch videos or trying to play games. I guess you will not really notice it when you're just listening to music but it's very obvious when you hear it with video.

Is this a known issue? Am I doing something wrong? Any way to fix this? I'm more concerned with the Bluetooth part since I have another DAC for my PC, but sometimes I just want to use my IEMs (with the balanced cables) without switching the connector to 3.5mm on my phone or I want to watch videos without the wire on my phone at least. Anyone else have the same issues please help me out (I've been lurking at this forum for a while and finally decided to register and post)

I just checked and I also see a slight delay of Bluetooth audio when watching a video on my phone. It's about a quarter of a second lag. I have always used the Bluetooth connection to listen to music streamed from my phone and so haven't noticed it previously.
