I know the Shanling is meant for music and that is what I what mainly be using for but, is there a podcast function as well? Also, how does it compare to the Cayin N3?

There is no dedicated support for podcast listening in system of M2s.

Hmm, no worries. I have no plans of going to balanced headphones or earphones in the near future. That said, is it even worth considering the M3s?

M3s might share DAC, but amplifier and overall tuning and sound quality is way different from M2s. Even without going balanced.

I actually have the same speakers, and it works for mine.

Have you set the speakers to Blue Light when trying to scan for them? This is how you make sure they are visible to BT devices.

Also, I am not sure if they are still visible when paired with something else, if you paired them before, and if they are actively being used by another device.

You where right, spekaers where already paired with my phone, so I had to turn it off 1st.

Thanks!

Well, maybe I'll consider looking into the M3s, but I am on a budget.

Hi all, I've narrowed the M2s down to one of my potential dap choices. Largely due to the implementation of hiby link (as well as other features).

Just checking that gapless is flawless and bi directional bluetooth works perfectly as well?

Thanks

I performed objective measurements of Shanling M2s player according to the innovative music-based audio metric. In short:
  • Audio quality of the player is on par with iPhone 4/5/6
  • Low Gain and High Gain modes are equal from sound quality perspective
  • Steep lopass filter mode should be prefered as it better preserves waveform of a signal. Though its impact on perceived audio quality is hardly noticeable.
Df-slide with measurement results:

Anybody on the gapless??

I use gapless on my DAPs, including the M2s, and haven't noticed any problems. Since the M2s is a discontinued device, have you found a shop that still has some in stock?

Thanks for the info. I have as it happens (in the UK). Hififheadphones has some as does Amazon (I think from hififheadphones mind).

By today's standards, would you say the M2s still cuts it?? I tried the M0 but was way on the small side. I was edging toward a touchscreen but hiby link does away with that and I've been impressed with the shanling build and Ui previously

All three of my "budget" DAPs (with screens) - Cayin N3, Shanling M1 & M2s - use Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) DACs (AKM4452 in M1, and ), and run the HiBy Music playing S/W - so their basic sound signature is quite similar.

I like the sound of my M2s, and like the wheel/knob control interface.
Both the Shanling M2s & Cayin N3 use the AKM4490 DAC, have about the same power output, and selectable "Line Level" output.
Being able to control either DAP with the HiBy Link app, is a real convenience.
Since the M2s has a higher output impedance, if you use low impedance earbuds, or multi balanced armature earphones - you might notice slightly less low Bass quantity (while the quality is just as good), compared to DAPs with low output impedance. With high impedance earbuds, or dynamic earphones - the DAPs sound very similar to me, from the Bass, through the Midrange and Treble.

Once Shanling delivers their in-house developed "BT Remote Control" app, my M0 will be the perfect small, portable (single-ended) DAP.
For small, portable (balanced) - I can connect my earbuds/earphones to my Radsone ES100, and use BT LDAC from either the M0 or my LG V30 phone.

Hi, I love the m2s, with just one issue.

"auto standby is activated after set time of idle, when no music is playing and unit wasn't operated"

I use the m2s with bluetooth headphones, if I pause, after 3 minutes the player goes into idle. I have to press power twice to wake it, and then play reconnects bluetooth, and press play again to play. Is there any way to disable, or at least increase the idle time?

I can't see any way in the menu's, but started digging using the theme tool by zvortex.

In system/usr/resource/system_attribute there is a file default.ini which contains many of the settings identifiable easily by name.

<powersave_shutdown_time>1</powersave_shutdown_time> // 1-8(min), (step:1sec)
<powersave_shutdown_switch>1</powersave_shutdown_switch> //0-off, 1-on

Are these the settings for the idle, can anyone confirm?

So, if I change the time up, repack and update the firmware will this achieve my goal?

Thanks.

I just gave up on a one month old PNY 512GB card. I paid $10 more at Best Buy to order a slightly newer, supposedly upgraded version call the PNY Elite.

My overall conclusion is that higher capacity cards do not necessarily last well. I generally have had good experience with Sandisk and mostly Samsung. PNY does not get great reviews and now I think I know why.
