Shanling M0 - Smallest Hi-Res Portable Player - New Firmware V3.6

The more I am reading, I am understanding that the ES9218P does do DSD 256 natively so it could be/have been implemented to use DSD native rather than DoP in the M0.

I apologize, my mistake, I overlooked in Datasheet of 9218P, it has DSD and DoP, not DoP and D2P as I though.

So yes, ES9218p can do native transport, sorry for confusion.

Right so what are the DoP/D2P settings on the M0 doing then and why can't the M0 support DSD native up to DSD 256 as the ES9218P can?

Cpu limitation. Already DSD128 in DoP is too much on this tiny but heroic device.

Yes but that is because DSD128 over DoP is using the full limit of 384khz PCM. It would be less stress to use the native transport and decode and DSD128 and probably DSD256.

Moreover why are you not implementing the DSD native transport and decode for any DSD including most common DSD64.

This I believe would solve the clicks and pops that are an inherent problem with DoP/on fly D2P.

Also, I can't see anywhere that ESS are claiming that the ES9218P is Hi-Res Audio Certified. I'm not quite sure that what you have stated is correct, I understand it that the device (M0) is certified not the chip (ES9218P).

I echo what @Czoken said above: in USB DAC mode, sometimes there is basically 0 delay (less than 50ms), sometimes it is up to 400-500ms.

Setting the sampling rate to 176 or 192khz seems to help reduce the delay. Unplugging/replugging after a while also keeps the delay minimal. (I'm using Windows 10.)

Is this a hardware or software issue?

Finally someone on same page as me. I really like shanling, and how it CAN have low latency via BT, but cant via usb. Why is that so? Also it actually can have this latency, but something doesn't work right. It's shame.

If it makes you feel better both my ak70 and ZX300 has/had latency problems in dac mode.

Still though, the hardware seems capable, considering that there is no delay during the first 5-10 minutes after plugging it in. Also, from what I've read, the Hidizs AP80 uses the same ES9218P DAC, but doesn't have any delay issues in USB DAC mode. What gives?

I have one question. At playback - Filter
what are the differences between all the options?
  • Linear Fast
  • Linear Slow
  • Minimum Fast,
  • Minimum Slow
  • Apodizing Fast 1
  • Apodizing Fast 2
  • Corrected Min
  • Corrected Fast
  • Brick Wall

So far great as transport to Hugo 2 but problems with DSD dop. Is there any solution yet ? Did not shanling engineers check dsd dop before release. I bought it mainly for dsd transport. One more thing is the that the name of song is not visible due to small screen. Horizontal scrolling of name would have been better .

On the list of the songs you can swipe to the left and it will scroll the text
