Sounds kind of like the H7 can't outperform the M8 in terms of sound. At least that's how it comes across to me.

"To our ears, it would sit somewhere between M8 and M6 Ultra, so definitely more towards the fuller sound of Shanling."
Considering the fact that both players M6 Ultra and M8 are tuned very similarly what would the above quoted answer mean?
If the differences in tuning are minimal, this answer probably reffered to the sound quality.
And nobody is suggesting that the H7 will sound bad, quite an opposite tbh. Im sure it will be great but just for me, who has the M8, the H7 wont be as attractive as i thought.
But lets wait for reviews firstly.

My response was strictly about sound tuning, I'm not sure how you are now using it to sound the overall sound quality.

We will be sending samples of H7 to our standard rooster of reviewers, I will make sure to ask them to provide a comparison to M8 in their articles.

Ok thank you for clarifying.
I made such conclusion because the M6 Ultra and M8 have similar tuning already.
Anyways, waiting for the reviews.

It's amusing to witness how people here talk themsleves into paying more. Must be the same reason why apparel manufacturers laugh all the way to the bank merely by putting a logo on a $5 t-shirt. You guys must not have been following how dongle prices "fluctuate with the market" after product releases, based on what people are willing to pay for them, and not cost+fixed profits. Whatever premium price you're willing to pay, there will be companies who will take your money.

I get you and i would really love to see how everything gets cheaper.
But unfortunately, in audio world, i only once experienced a cheap product that sounded amazing. It is IFI Zen Dac V2 which costs 170e and gives me all i want.
Rest of the cases have left me with an impression that if i want something on a really high level, i need to pay at least 1k and more.
There are differences in audio performance between lower and middle class and higher class daps, amps.
On the other hand, this field experiences a really fast development, so now it's possible to get a very satisfying source even below 500 bucks. But it won't have high end sound.

The best DAP I have ever had was Zishan DSD priced ~150$, with AKM4497 dac chip and easy interchangeable op-amp section. I put in it 50$ Burson v5i-D op-amp and it sounded very dense, matur with very powerfull bass line, liquid lush vocals, very wide soundstage and energetic detailed but natural and not ear-piercing highs. It was powerfull enough to drive my Sennheiser HD650 and Audeze-X at loud enough levels with really fat bass line and wide soundstage. I used it a lot with my smartphone while listening to Tidal as
portable dac-amp. This was incredible price-SQ ratio device, the best I have ever had.

Now I have FiiO M17 and have already put it for sale after half a year of use. M17 has more technical, detailed and neutral presenration with exceptional dynamic sound, but to my ears lacking that dense, warmth, full musical presentation, just can't listen to it more than half an hour, too much tension in high frequencies...yes the DC mode helps, but it doesn't change overall sound signature...just not my type of sound...

For conclusion: Zishan DSD4497 + Burson V5i-D at total price of 200$ gave me more overall satisfaction, emotions and enjoyment than 1700$ FiiO M17.

The most anticipated device for me personally atm is upcoming Xduoo XD05PRO portable dac-amp with interchangeable dac and op-amp sections (9038pro, 4499EX, ROHM).

I'll put Shanling H7 in my wishlist if it will be priced reasonably according to other competitors and if it pays off the sound quality.

Interesting implementation, how do we navigate through the music stored on the SD Card? Through an app on your smart phone?

Does it navigate through album metadata on the display or something?

Via Shanlings’ Eddict Player app on Android and IOS devices, as well as apparently basic functionality via unit itself.

surprised that small thing handled the burson! sent my r2r2000 to get modded lately and even something like the ada4265-2 didn't pair well.

that being said, as a person that has gone through the cycle of daps dac/amps and what not, I'm in team warmth aswell, surprised so many people are drawn to the neutral sound, everytime I listen to a device with that sort of tuning I just can't seem to enjoy the music.

@Shanling why would Source selection require a knob? It seems like most users would not change the source that often to warrant making the selection so prominent. I would also be concerned of accidentally changing the source.
It's multi-functional wheel. It acts bit like on our UA5, so you can use it to also accessing menu with settings and it also serves for the playback control when playing from the card.

Any way to play Apple Music on the phone and listen on the H7? Wired/wireless?
You can have H7 connected to you phone either over USB or Bluetooth and Play Apple Music.
