Sennheiser PX100-II vs. HD 238
Jul 12, 2010 at 9:14 AM Post #2 of 5
I myself only had the PX100-IIs, so I can only speak for them. But I found them nicer on the lower frequencies than the Koss Porta Pros I used to own. PPs had slightly more sparkly highs.

The 238 however, this one reviewer says they are PX100s on steriods, so that's a good sign. However they are compared to the PX100s, not the IIs, and some people say the PX100-IIs are better than the first version (like me), so they might be on par (238 vs PX100-II).

It would maybe come down for comfort and portability between the 2 you are debating to get.
In that case, portability is in favor of the PX100-IIs hands down. And comfort with the 238s because of their earpads. Both are open, so not good for public unless you're a rebel :).

Hope this helped a little bit.

It did, thank you. So sq seems to be pretty much even?

Alright, I looked into it more for ya.

- Seems like the 238 has Koss Porta Pro + Grado type highs, so it's sparkly with glitter.
- The mid range frequencies is typical Sennheiser, a bit recessed.
- And the lows, from what I read, extend deep - just like the PX100-IIs. PX100-IIs seem to have more controlled bass, though the bass IS plentiful.
- I personally thought the 238 were more comfortable. (Auditioned 228 at the store, though I think the padding is a different? Since 228 is closed, 238 is open.)
- But the PX100-IIs are more portable. 238 is around the neck.
- Both have good instrument separation and soundstage.

So with this information gathered, it seems the 238 beats the PX100-II in those categories.

Compared against the PX 100-II, the HD 238 has an extended bass as well as a crispier high frequency. Anyways, you may want to check out the thread provided by BlackSushi222
