SENNHEISER POLL

Since I've never heard the HD59x, 580 or 6xx, but I do use my HD25-1 almost daily I voted 'other'.

The HD595 is a very good headphone, period.

The HD-650 can in direct comparison be a bit of an acquired taste to some un-introduced I would think. But once you have got over the first impression of where did the sound go, they open an entirely different soundstage. The concert hall opens up and you are surrounded by a relaxed, grand, airy and perhaps a bit dark sound. Not dark in the sense of a rolled off treble, mind you. I vote for the 650, but then I have not heard any other of the Senns, besides the 595, in the poll.

Definitely the HD580 as the sound is 99% the HD600 but the cost is USD$139 to USD$145 new from CompuPlus.com. Probably the best bang for the buck factor there is headphones.

I'm also a fan of the HD580/600/650 sound..hence my vote for this series..

HD650/Zu Mobius or HD650/Moon Audio Silver Dragon, depending on my mood. This represented a big improvement (to my ears) to the HD600/Cardas or HD600/Equinox.

And , of course, the HE-90/HEV-90 is Sennheiser's crowning achievement. So much so that they still drag it around to European meets to show it off even though it is long out of production (save the recent HE-90 one-off production run).

Voted "other", as I like the vintage Sennheiser sound (HD424, HD410, I hope one day to find an HD414

)

I voted for HD650. Cables do alter their sound, but not as much as source and amp. I'm quite happy with stock cables

I voted for the hd600. It is my classical music headphone, I use it for this purpose exclusively, because it is the best headphone for classical music. Although, I think that the Sennheiser 580/600/650 family represents the best value in headphones, period. You get the most value for the dollar spent!

HD650:

Comfort - A
Treble - A
Midrange - A+
Bass - B+

A great can overall. I prefer my Headphile Darth Beyers, because I like my bass really strong and really deep. But the HD650's are my reference can for midrange.

Just read the first page of reviews. Not a company you want to trust your money to.

Thanks for that. I guess I'll either ask Headroom for a price match or risk buying form Compu-Plus since AMEX has always been tops with dealing with shady e-tailers. Still hoping I find a used HD600 though, I just love the paint work/grills on it
