Sennheiser IE80's Impressions Thread

My warranty replacements for my old IE7 got delayed until mid-April, which sucks, but the customer service rep is sending me some free CX310s due to the inconvenience. Sennheiser gets more points from me again.

I would call them and ask if they could send the IE80 instead.

Sennheiser does NOT repair IEM's, they just replace them.

Remember reading a post saying Sennheiser replaced his IE7 with IE80 because the IE7 has been discontinued from production. Refuse to accept the free CX310.

Just got the updated TWag eclipse for the IE80 today. Unlike the previous version, it has no heat shrink so it's way more ergonomic and less bulky. I added some pics below.

Hi! What does this new cable do for you? Why did you change the stock one?
What earbuds are you using? Do they provide better isolation/fit than the stock?
Thanks!

IE80 vs Westone 3?
Which is better for Rock, Jazz, 80's, Blues and Classical Piano?

I have not heard the IE80, but I have compared the W3 and the IE8 quite a bit.  I personally prefer the Sennheiser sound for these genres.  Though, if isolation is important, the W3 also do very well with them and sound very musical for a BA.

The Westones have been known to be sibilant so just keep that in mind. This is also tip dependent from what I've read throughout the forums. The IE80 should do pretty well with the genres you've mentioned and with my cable upgrade I find it to really excel at rock music in general. There's just that right amount of detail and separation that is perfect for rock; euphoric sound.

I understand that not everyone will experience sibilance buts its been an issue I've read from various headfiers. So I think it's good for him/her to know and consider it as a possibility regardless. You'll never know until you try though...

Also taking into account that the Westones win hands down for isolation, they may be what hes looking for. But for going out and about I find the IE80s isolation very much sufficient and most importantly safer. I've read too many horror stories about people dying or having near-death experiences due to IEMs. I'll stick to the Customs when I'm stationary lol.
