Of course, it is a matter of taste, and depends on what is the sound you want in the ultimate instance. 
 
For example, I am really into X5II + Ie800, but plan to change to X7 + ie800. But I would be happy to remain with X5II + ie800 too.

I think that to get balanced, you need to get the version from ALO, which has cut and changed the plug at the split.

Yep, just as George said, you would need to get the full mod in case you really want to go balanced (the original Sennheiser Y-split plug is just TRS and you would need TRRS).

Really? My one solitary complaint is that all the 10kHz spike is overwhelming after a while.

There are even more eye-blinkingly crispy IEMs as well, but indeed. It's definitely not harsh.

I have a very hard time finding a very good IEM to take outside, instead of Ie800, because I want to protect ie800, as they have those helmholtz resonators and it seems as if the dusty air of Bucharest might affect ie800 in time. 
 
The thing is, all lower tier and even other high tier IEMs and almost all closed back headphones are so boring when it comes to crisp and sparkly sound. They all sound dark in comparation. I wish that more headphones and IEMs would be created with a similar signature. 
 
I would never want to dampen this exciting sound. There are moments, when I even add a bit more treble to them.
