Hey, I was wondering why those old headphones (1994 i think) are soooooooo expensive? I found an auction on ebay and some dude sold it for 21 000 pounds! I know they are some premium headphones but the price for me is just wrong.

The HE 90 is related to the HE 60, which are commonly considered to be some of the best headphones ever made.

I'm not sure how the HE90's relate to the HE 60's but you wont hear a bad thing about the HE 60s

But I think HE60 are little cheaper than HE90...

It's a collectors item.  IIRC they only made 300 sets of the HE-90 with the Amplifier.  Many consider it to be the best ever made.

It pops up every so often here and on eBay.
I'd recommend the HE60 as it's at least 95% of the HE90 and will cost a fraction of same.

PS: I LOVE my HE60, they are truly outstanding phones!

Yes you are correct.  They original sold- headphone and amp for $12,000.00 to $14,000.00 USD.  They are now being price gauged by a number of sellers in my opinion.  When things get old, their price should be less not double or even triple.  Shame on all those gauging sellers.  I have heard the HE 90s and amp at least ten times over the last eight years.  They do sound great but not that much better than a good pair of Stax at a third the price.

More, I recently sold a number of high end headphones on Ebay.  I sold my SR 007 Omega twos for roughly $1000.00, I sold my Sennhesier HD800s for roughly $700 and a complete pro and non pro Lanbda with stax amp for another $800.  If you want to know what is wrong with the world economy, now you know your answer.

Darn good prices... you would have gotten more here or on Audiogon.  Next time you have some gear for sale PM me first...

You are so right! The 1967 corvette sting-ray convertible should cost less than a new one! Old wine should be cheaper than new wine! A 1950's fender should be cheaper than a new one!...
It's called supply and demand.

I don't know how we can talk about supply and demand in a positive light in a hobby that boasts $10k power cables, and speakers where "cheap" is anything under $15k.

I've spent some time with the HE90/HEV90 and truth be told, if it were still available at the original $11k price I'd be awfully tempted. It's far from the last word in accuracy but if you want a very euphonic rig that still retains high-end-electrostatic levels of detail, it's the way to go.
