Thanks for sharing.
When you mentioned that the difference is huge between stock and wireworld :

1. Is your stock headphone cable CH800S ?
2. Did the power cord or headphone cable made more difference? (I guess it's the headphone cable)

Yeah its the headphone cable and its not that its doing anything to the sound to alter it, its as if the source is directly connected to the phone with no cable. Which is what a great cable does.
So what I'm getting is better detail retrieval better layering and better instrument separation, its quit the cable honestly and I have updated all my other phones with Wireworld cables.

Excellent read and as an owner of the HDVD800 I find it hard to understand why the community, owners of Senn HD800 or S have rarely embraced this it for its excellent synergy.
Of all the gear I have purchased Amps, DACS over the last decade the HDVD800 and HD800S are still part of my collection.

Thanks for a very honest take on this fine amp.

So my SPL Phonitor E is a downgrade from my Lotoo Paw Gold, driving the HD800S. Very Disappointed.

Do you think I should try out the HDVA600?

Why not? Do you have a shop near by that you can audition them? If so definitely. Like I've mentioned the synergy is there and Sennheiser tuned this amp for the HD800. If you have a chance to also partake in any meets, you should find the pair at them too.. good luck.

Sennheiser introduced a black HDVD 800 as part of their Dior Home x Sennheiser collection. Its beyond me why they never released a black version of the HDVD 800 when the HD 800 S was first released. The photos of the HDVD 800 appear to be renderings because the red graphics are clearly different layers in Photoshop.

For those that have been waiting over a year for an improved version of the HDVD 800, it looks like Sennheiser still has nothing.

The HDVD 820 won't be coming for a long time for those that are stilling waiting. I predict it won't even come in 2017.

Guys, I have recently bought the HDVD 800, should receive it this weekend.

I have read many many reviews about the poor? DAC and I plan to use them only with my HD 800 (primary) and HD 600/650.
I bought them because I wanted a do it all box, also something lighter and that consumes less power.

I currently own the Marantz HD DAC1 which is very analog sounding and I love them. Was wondering if someone had a chance to compare them directly with the HDVD 800?
Thanks much!

Almost three days with the HDVD 800, comparing with the Yggdrasil/Ragnarok (from my memory) and the Marantz HD DAC1.
All I can say is the HDVD 800 gets the best out of the HD 800. Period.

I do find that the HD DAC1 more analog sounding but the HDVD 800 is more neutral and adds more soundstage width to the HD 800. Now I cannot go back to any other setup.

Lovely!  I agree, though I have never had the opportunity to do a comparison (A vs. B).

The HDVD800 remains the best match with the HD800.  The soundstage is impeccable and out of this world!

I wonder how it compares with the HD600 and HD650.

I have both the HD600/650s. The HD 600 sound really really good, almost as good as the HD 800 minus the sound stage and imaging.
The HD 650s are darker and the HD DAC1 makes them sound much more darker which I honestly like more than the HDVD 800.

I will keep the HDVD 800 because they are really good with the high impedance headphones that I own. My T1 is on the way this weekend and I heard many good things about this pairing too.
