Sennheiser HD820

I find the 820 actually more comfortable than the 800. The thicker pads make it feel less loose. With the 800 I feel like if I move my head quickly it would come off.

Interesting you say this, my initial impression of the 820 was it was more prone to fall off my head if I tipped it quickly and was starting to think I would keep the 800S and sell the 820, but I think it was 'user error'. I now clamp the cups 'shorter' and they're much more secure feeling - albeit very light - and I'm now leaning towards keeping the 820s and selling the 800S :)

After having both for like 9 months IMO they are both awesome in own way and I can't sell either

Yeah, I've contemplated that, but feel like I should put my money towards something else like maybe a BT receiver or entry-level tube amp; will keep the 660S as my open air 'consolation' cans :)

I have the 800 SDR and am feeling the same. Every time I use it, I just think why not use the 820 and find myself having to make myself use the 800 like I did most of today. While it's still excellent, I don't ever miss it when using other headphones, almost all of which are at or above its price range. As is, I only like it slightly more than the 700.

It really depends on the music and mood for me. Most genres IMO sound a bit better on HD800S, but HD820 does well with electronic. Re: mood, the hd820 is great when you want to drown out your surroundings

yeah for me I find the 820 'warmer' or 'fuller' over the 800, pretty much all around, like 60s/70s/80s music, jazz & classical. Now, I literally got the RME yesterday and have been listening to it 'flat'; I'm hoping to play w/ the parametric EQ this weekend and create profiles for the 820 and 800S to compare some more.

Hi guys, my 820 arrived today. It looks really nice also in comparison to my HD800. However, unfortunately I feel that the comfort is less than the HD800S (wearing glasses). I find the clamp much harder than I am used to giving some pressure on glasses frame and face. Will the clamp still loosen over time?

There are ways to loosen it up but it's a closed back so it needs to make seal. If u make too loose will have no bass. Also the headband setting I found different than hd800s in terms of how many notches out

Sure. It's a bit of a thin line because if its too tight I will not keep it. Would you mean with ways to loosen to bend the headband outwards?
Right, same goes for hd600/hd650 there are techniques to loosen it via bend. You just have to be extra careful with hd820 because unlike 600/650 if hd820 is not tight enough to make good seal the bass rapidly declines
