I am looking forward to seeing them tomorrow at the headphone festival! I love my HD800 and probably won't part with it since A. the market for them in the near term will be poop and B. I bought the HE1000 to compliment them but it's nice to have something else to lust after.

So if this is just a re-tuned HD800, how would it fair against the Anax 3.0 mod or similar HD800 mod?

They have figured out the right material for their own version of a baffle/mesh mod akin to Anax mod and similar that will stand the test of time and won't absorb smell or sweat, and they are throwing in the balanced cable. My guess is $2000. I'd wait for the "acoustic absorber" to be available on the Sennheiser service parts site.

I do like the all black colour but I don't understand why two cables as most people go for aftermarket anyway. Probably to justify an exorbitant price.

Gives them a reason to explain an inevitable price increase.

They'll now be 2 different products, rather than an upgraded version like the m-50 and the m-50x etc

Good point.

Not to mention that the Senn balanced cable never really flew off the shelves.

Makes good business sense I suppose that now you have to buy the balanced cable want it or not.

If the price isn't too crazy I might pick these up in the future. I've been waiting successor for the HD800's. I'm putting up my home theater first, so shiny new headphones will have to wait.
