If you are an hd800 owner you owe it to yourself to do an anax style mod. It's super simple just stick a little felt in there. It really cut down on the internal ringing of the cup around 6 khz

I was thinking the same thing. Hopefully they treat the aluminum with a high quality black anodize.
 
The HD800S is a no brainer for feeding the market. Use an existing platform and do additional tweaking.
 
I'd suggest to the early adopters to sit and wait for a comparison of modded HD800 vs. HD800s. If there isn't a huge change in SQ this would be the time to buy pristine mint used HD800 v.1 and do a cheap mod. There will be a flood of version 1's hitting the market now

As a HD 800 owner (unmodded unit), a better bass is what I want more than taming the piercing treble (honestly, it is not that bad. I just avoid tracks that elicits a sibilant response).
