Seriously though, I happen to be German, and it could certainly stand for "saugut" (roughly translates to "damn fine"). The more I think about it, however, I think that it's S for SEXEY! A more globally oriented approach would certainly make sense in this case.

With the recent uber inflation of flagship headphones, I recently commented that what the market needs is a company with the resources of Sennheiser to come in with a super high performer at significantly lower price than the rest.. even 2000USD would qualify. I'm hoping this may be it, although somewhat concerned by Axel's muted description of the improvements and the fact they've only added the "S" rather than making it a new model number altogether. I suspect this means it's only an incremental improvement on the HD800.. which perhaps for many is all that's required.

If the 800S is $2000 or less, I will definitely be one of those selling my HD 800. If it's more, I will have to wait for some serious reviews to tell me it's really amazing, and an improvement.

Looking forward to seeing the freq. graph.      It appears to be same driver with the "mod" done at the factory to tame the 6k spike.   Sounds great to me. Amazing headphone updated a little.

Let see what Tyll says and measures ... there be plenty reviews telling that its amazing a huge improvement and excatly what everybody has been waiting for .... but why only add a 'S' to the name ?
 
As Axel himself is stating in the short video: "small improvements to the sound", and finish the presentation stating that the HD800 is a really good headphone ...upss..and the HD800S is even better ...
