Thanks Lieven for this great review! I love th HD800S with the 339 tube amp as well! Really incredible sound quality all the way with hopefully one of the better source!

@Ultrainferno : considering you conclusion, it seems you need some Superdupont resonators :p

Great review, thanks! I was quite suprised how good AK380 (Cu version in my case) manages the HD800S. But this is the only DAP I would really recommend for the HD800S.

I wouldn't dare do that myself :)

It was a nice surprise indeed, the AK380 keeps surprising me in positive ways. And thank you!

Noob here to this forum...   I have a pair of HD 800 S and also the HD 650's.   My 800 S have about 130-140 hours and drive them with the 4 pin XLR (custom 20 Ft Cable) from my also new Oppo HA 1 Class A DAC/Amp.

When I first unboxed the 800's they did not sound a whole different than my 650's...I was disappointed since they were 4X+ the $.   But after the first 100 hours, (I know allot of measurements geeks do not believe in break-in)   But I do....They now have both more Finesse and more Slam...details are more revealing.  And by using the XLR 4-Pin connector on the HA-1 (more power then the single ended port) it provides plenty of power for these cans for sure....Hoping to share and learn here...

Cheers,
Larry

You didn't even hear a difference in soundstage and clarity?

Dont know if he serious? I gave my friend to listen to my HD650 and after i buyed Beyer T1 and gave him those too. I asked him how do you like T1 and how you you compare it vs HD650? He said T1 improved resolution, details and so much improved soundstage! He was talking most about soundstage. He noticed soundstage difference and T1 have noticably smaller Stage than HD800 . With HD800series it should be even more obvious to hear... My point was that my friend is completely clueless about audiophile equipment, but he easily noticed soundstage difference. For audiophile it should have been even easier to notice.

Not right out of the box....Literally...the big brown truck just got through leaving them on the porch...anyway all is good now...after break in they sound like I hoped they would...Even sound great with the 20Ft cable I made though that took some time to sound right as well...Never thought I would spend that kind of money but with the HA-1 they really sound great...Incredibly low noise floor with my MAC Mini-Oppo HA-1 combo....
