Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

Oh come on, stop with the myths about cables. Silver doesn't make headphones brighter and copper doesn't make them warmer.
Ok, you are perfectly entitled to disbelieve anything I think, but my experience is that silver cables with the HD800 are not an ideal match up. In fact having had a discussion with Matt at FAW he said the same and he makes and sells cables! Anyway I did not say anything about copper making things warmer so while you may not agree with my feelings on silver please don't put words in my mouth about copper.

On an unrelated issue silver cables and wires work very well with SET amplifiers though.

hey guys, just got my hd 800s like an hr ago, and already I hate the cable, lol. I've seen somewhere that people have adapters so they can use mini xlr or 3.5mm cables instead of this god awful proprietory connector cable, can anyone point me to the direction of where to get a well made one? Been looking around, haven't had the best luck.
I found a decent one on Taobao. Not sure if they ship outside China though.

I so want to kick the ass of the Sennheiser designers. The headphones are sounding great, but the comfort is crappy for a lot of people. See hotspot problem. And it's the same design since HD800 non S.

It is the most comfortable headphone I have ever worn. I actually like wearing more than no headphone.

Haha dude you sure? Wearing no headphones is most comfortable. :D But other than that a Hifiman Arya/HE1000 construction is the most comfortable for me. Sennheiser restricts the horizontal and vertical swivel too much.

LOL seriously. I just feel so good when they are on my head. Maybe part of it is me feeling lucky I am in a position where I could even afford such expensive headphones.

Part of it though is I just love the feel for sure.

Silver looks shiny and light, copper is darker and with a warm brown hue. Hence the myth about the sound.
The conductivity of silver is just 5-10% better than that of copper - too small difference for a 1-3 m headphone cable for 5-20 kHz freqs.

The problem is you are trying to convince people with science they won't believe.

I posted this in the 8xx thread but I thought I’d share here too in case it’s helpful to anybody:
I’ve unfortunately been expeirencing the headband hot spot on my rather large noggin. The ZMF pilot pad makes them too small for my head so I needed a different solution. What I did was: unclip the headband by two clips on either side, leaving the middle clipped in, and insert some foam tubing I had lying around to prop the ends up a bit, adding some more pressure to the sides of the headband and relieving the hotspot. This mod should be totally reversible.

If anyone has a 3d printer, one could ostensibly print a pair of wedges that could clip into place on the headband and then clip into the padding on the bottom for a more permanent (but easily reversible) solution.
