Never used ignore before, it works like a charm.

Good stuff. My comment was actually leading into agreeness over your earlier comment about hd800s having enough bass with decent edm. If your ignore button isnt working, you'll probably reply by saying you don't need my agreement. Just don't feel the need to reply
I’ll let him know what you said.

Which headphones would you say are similar but clearly better?

I primarily listen to jazz, electronic, and classical using HD800s. Any favorite, recent tube amp combos? My plan for a DAC is the Matrix X. Was looking at the WA33 and Feliks Euforia. Read something saying the Feliks is a bad match for the HD800s.

Hey there, I've just recently acquired the HD800S via Addicted To Audio in Melbourne Australia. My two amps are the THX 789 and La Figaro 339i, which is an OTL amp.
I can't imagine those who used the HD800 claiming it is neutral and transparent (and thanks to the previous post about reading through this thread, the first dozen or more pages are solely comparing the HD800 and HD800S).
The THX 789 -> HD800S is really bright with what I would call under-emphasised bass. I'm not a huge basshead (though I do enjoy my Focal Clear Pro and Audeze LCD-X 2021) but the 789 and HD800S combo sounds bright and not neutral.

The part you actually wanted to read is below, skip to here if you are skimming
If the 789 is 100% neutral then the 339i is 95% neutral with the most neutral tubes (Cetron 7236 + 6SJ7GT mesh).
My current combo that I think is perfect is the Bendix 6080WB + 6SJ7GT mesh. This might be 90% neutral but the bass is just the right amount, soundstage is huge and treble is still there, almost as good as through the 789.
The problem is these tubes are rare and expensive, not sure how the tube market for other amps is.

I am contemplating a Soloist 3XP amp upgrade, those have swappable opamps to something with warmer tonality with no real worry of rarity.
Or the Violectric 281, would be amazing with the HD800S.

Are you using any sort of EQ? Currently, I'm using Sonarworks. Seems to work well. That said, if I move onto this new DAC/Tube Amp combo, I'd worry that I'm 'killing' the sound by EQ'ing it. Dunno...

Never really bothered with EQ, except for the Koss electrostatic 95X (if I ever use those headphones)

1) I use ASIO in foobar which bypasses EQ
2) I spend too much time fiddling with each q band. Would rather do that adjustment with physical equipment

Plus, whenever I have both music and YouTube playing, or just YouTube, or just some loudly mastered music. the gain values go off the chart and I find the pre-amp gain at -30dB. Just another hassle and not one I'm particularly interested in.
