Is new paint the only thing that's new about the Sennheiser HD 800S Anniversary Edition Gold?

Probably, what I would like to see is an all metal frame, I would order a pair right now if they made them.

Is anyone using the Fiio M15 to feed the 800s? How is that?
I am kinda used to the Shure KSE1200. Does the 800s come close to that one on a M15? I love the KSE1200 but I could do with a bit beefier sound, while keeping soundstage and detail.

Yes they feed them very well. I prefer them over my desktop setup

Hello all, I recently purchased an HD800s to start my audiophile journey with open-back cans. I was wondering what good amp pairing synergizes well with the HD800s. I'm currently looking for a good desktop amp or similar within the range of 500-700usd and would tame the treble peak it has. Thanks

I am using the Asgard 3 with a multibit card with mine and am very happy.

I know your not in the UK, but if you are solely a headphone listener, instead of an amp, maybe try a Chord Hugo 2. They are priced at £1800 UK pounds, but you can get them for £1500 or slightly lower. I had one and it sounded magical when teamed up with a pair of HD800S, as I had both and they both blew me away due to the sound quality.

You are from Qatar, so you must be rich and can afford to buy a Hugo 2, that beats any third party amp if you only use headphones when listening to music. Also there are a couple of new addons for Hugo 2, 2go is one of them and it's a server of sorts.

Trust me when I say that Hugo 2 and HD800S sound magical and, if you can afford it, you won't look back. The sound quality is ten out of ten.

I should add that I'm not sure what version of the HD800 that you have, if it's the HD800S, in my opinion, they don't have the peak that the earlier HD800 suffered from, but YMMV.

If you solely listen to music with headphones on, which I do and in my opinion, there is nothing that can compete with that setup price wise.

To add to my post above, if you are unaware, the Chord Hugo 2 is a Dac with an output stage that doesn't need a separate external Amp to drive your headphones.

That way you don't need a separate amp which would / will affect the sound quality.

Bottlehead Crack w/Speedball for $315. It's a kit that is easy to assemble. Nothing sounds better than a tube amp with analytical high impedance phones like the HD800S.

Id like more absolute opinions

Doesn't the Hugo 2 have a digital output? Wouldn't it be better to leave it at 100% and let an amp control volume?...though I guess that adds an additional complication into the mix.

He is asking for a recommendation in the $500-700usd range.
