Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

Any feedbacks regarding benefits on using aftermarket cables ? I just got an HD800S but feel I still have some veil in the highs and haziness in the bass.
I remember reading good stuff on the stock cable but was wondering if anyone had tried it with a silver cable for example. Maybe it would be too bright though.
thanks !

Double helix cables silver compliment 4 pure occ type 4 litz. Expensive and long wait times but it could be the best aftermarket cable. Brings the music closer and more expansive. It's not designed to color the sound at all but enhance transparency. But you know cable talk opens a can of worms. Go to the site and thread in head fi for more info.
But seriously I'm tired of promoting dhc, I have several interconnects on order and may order a balanced cable and don't want any cue jumpers.

Silver will help take care of that veil. We have our own silver wire that will not sound too harsh or too bright. You can check out our website to see more options and know more about what we have. Feel free to PM or email if you have any questions.

Thanks. I'm familiar with DHC but my intent is to build my own. I've been doing this for years now with great success. I was just wondering if there was a consensus on using aftermarket cable for the HD800S.
I've built one for my LCD2F which is currently on sale but I might re terminate it to use it with the HD800S. It's a hybrid copper and silver, tailored to the LCD2F. It might not be the best choice for the HD800S

Hi , anyone have experience with chord mojo+ fiio e12a with hd800S? Is it really worth to pair with mojo as a amp for hd800S?

one needs scale for hd800S as well as a competent dac with balanced out abilities. I don't own mojo but tested hugo and its pretty good. Hugo TT even better so draw your own conclusions.

Just got my replacement HD800S. This time it wasn't a sealed package. It lacks a book and a warranty-card (extend to 5 years). And again I notice a lot of backlash (movement) of the left earcup connector inside the barrel. I don't know what is going on  with these Sennheiser connectors, but it starts to annoy me. Might be cable-related though. But the first one had a  crackle/ticking sound because of the movement inside the barrel when moving my head. This is the second HD800's that has this issue on the left earcup. The connector on the right earcup is tight with almost no backlash (movement).

Did send the company a mail that I would like to visit their store upcoming weekend. It will be a 2-hours drive. But I don't see an other option.

Well that's not encouraging to hear about. New 800S is defective and now they send you a defective replacement? Is Sennheiser starting to have QC issues?

Also makes me question how I can tell if I order a pair will they be new or refurbished, or just returned because someone didn't like them. I certainly don't want to pay this kind of money and not feel absolutely certain I'm getting a brand new (as in no previous owner) pair of phones. When I purchased my HD600's several months back the box it came in appeared new but was not sealed in any way, which I thought was curious. I would think a shrink wrap with a Sennheiser sticker or seal of some sort would keep moisture out and tamperers out.

Good to know, thanks.

Yes indeed. Interesting though. Maybe part of their refurbish-policy. I am calling Sennheiser Benelux today.

Could it simply be the shop where you bought the HD 800 S from that is at fault here rather than Sennheiser? Some shops try to sell open or used products as new based on my experience. That's why I tend to buy from the most reputable shops now.
