Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

Don't have time to read whole tread so i'm gonna ask this probably frequently asked question. Where and what replacement cable (unbalanced) you recommend for Sennheiser HD800S. I just noticed that orginal cable coat is broken and conductor will be exposed soon. Off course 2 year warranty is gone just couple weeks ago. Orginal replacement part cost over 400$ from Sennheiser and i think that,s way too much for cable. So all recommendations for cheap or reasonable priced quality cable (unbalanced) are very welcome. Thanks!

Hi all, I've been out of the loop for quite a few years now, quite content with my setup, Calyx FEMTO > HeadAmp GS-X mk2 HD800 S, But lately I've been thinking I need some colour I'm over the neutrality of the setup and want to change it up a little or even a lot. I'm thinking either to replace a component in this chain or adding something to it like a coloured pre-amp SS or tube.

Any help in the right direction will be much appreciated, Cheers

A fantastic server. It doesn’t color the sound but deeper, richer, and detail. It wont fix mixing problems from source but offers a new dynamic.

Customcans.co.uk makes good, cheap cables. I just bought two balanced cables for my 800s and 600s. Nice braiding, litz wire, good connectors. Absolutely killer for the price (+- 110 GBP)

Depends where you live. If in Europe customcans is a definite go to shop for Sennheiser stuff.

No , but the Claire is equally good and much cheaper.
I have two now , one for the Clear and one for the HD660S.

The Claire is not necessarily cheaper. If you buy one the same length as the stock cable you're going to pay a lot of money and will probably wait months to get it.

Please try to be more specific when giving an answer.

If you are based in EU then original HD800 balanced cable is 300€.
The Claire MK2 3m length is 254€ and waiting is about 15 days at most.
Cable is better quality than stock.
I will not comment about the sound.

There are plenty more like that in various threads. Specific enough for you?

Mine took months to arrive, it was very expensive, communication was extremely poor. I didn't want to make a point of it given how many other unhappy customers posted here. But if you want to suggest to somebody they can save money on the stock cable and get it cheaper, it's very unlikely to happen with the shop you're recommending.

Have a Forza and a stock cable and I prefer the latter. Sennheiser doesn’t create a TOTL headphone without giving the cable the utmost consideration.

Mine experience is the opposite.
I have bought four cables from FAW from the cheapest to the most expensive.
The most delayed arrival was in 17 days from the date I placed the order.
The prices are as shown at their web page.
Note that I am located at EU so I didn't have to pay import taxes.
Communication was by email , all of them were answered but with 2-3 days delay.

Anyway the market is full of cable manufactures feel free to choose whatever you want according to your living place.
