Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

I put on both Oratory 1990 Harman Curve using Roon DSP and they sound GREAT but totally different in a good way. It's really hard to peek a winner. I can't even tell what is what I like the most of every one as still don't know but both are addictive and switching between them makes you don't miss the other. They just put a smile in your face every time you switch from one to the other.

Now these two: HD660S and Sundara.

Honestly, can't peek a winner. Both sound so different but at the same time they sound GREAT. I can listen to both all day. I thought it was going to be an easy decision but it is NOT so at this point I'm keeping the HD660s and the Sundaras.
I own both also and have a hard time chosing between the two. I think having both is totally worth it as they are different enough from each other to give you different perspectives on the music. They are good compliments to each other.

What are your comparison impressions in stock/ without EQ?

I agree also. I think its worth owning both. Together they cover any genre deficiencies one or the other may have.

To my ears, without any EQ, the HD660s sound just a bit better than the Sundaras. Mostly from 500Hz and bellow. With EQ, they both sound GREAT!!

I received my HD660s at the end of August ordered them from audio 46 a week before they went on sale $100 discount, which makes me mad because there still that way now, but other than that, they are fantastic sounding to me. Also, I ordered a cable from Hart audio and received it last week, and it sounds even better with that cable, believe it or not. I love the fact that Hart audio uses Mogami cable for their source cables. I play guitar and switched over to Mogami about five years ago, myself the best instrument cable on the market for the money.

No problem, glad to help. I picked up the connector kit for mine so I can hook up to any source in the future.

I didn't get the kit, instead I got 1' connectors so the cables are 5.5' long total. I got a pair of 4.4mm, a pair of 1/4" TRS and one 4 pin XLR. Total $209 for 2 headphone cables (1 x Sennheiser and 1 x HIFIMAN) + 5 connectors. That's an awesome deal for custom build headphone cables.

Chuckle...

Crinacle's graph isn't even matched at 2300Hz

It's a comparison between two set of cans measured with the same methodology. So for this methodology / set of measurement conditions, the 660s are slightly more emphasized between ~100 to 2000Hz as compared to the HD650s.

Other differences between the two are evident as well but the broader point is that measurements can vary depending on the setup and it's the comparison that matters.

More importantly a blanket declarative statement such as "The end. HD650 is better in every way." seems to assume that we all hear the same (physically and psycho-acoustically) which is a false assumption.
That said, glad you like the HD650s so much. :beerchug:

I do as well! In fact, they're the only set of cans I've repurchased because I got rid of them when clearing out some Senns and Beyers along with an OTL amp. Glad I got a second set and won't make that mistake again.

Even so, I still choose the 660s over the 650s...sometimes -- and vice versa!
I will go through periods of time where I hate one of my most loved headphones and cannot listen to it for a time. That is why I have more than one set of headphones.

Getting the best performing gear makes your music sound the best it possibly can
I'm a little schizophrenic with audio gear as well.. There are times when I love my Lotoo Paw Gold 2017 and there are times when I can't stand it. The same goes for my Sony NW-WM1A. Right now I am loving LPG with a pair of headphones that I absolutely hated 3 weeks ago

Yeah both of them are amazing headphones , i use those most of the time , But if i had to choose one of them , HD660s are smoother and more organic for me .

I find them more fun than the other headphones I've had, even without super soundstage, very deep bass and sparkle on the treble.

What headphones do you turn to for fun?
For fun i like the DT1990, HD25 , Soul Byrds , MDR 1am2, but i dont use them for long i cant stand these soundsignatures for long , i like them but not for my main headphone. HD6 line and something portable like kph30i is more on my sound signature , Sundara for example are in thin line for me some times they sound balance and some times harsh depnding my mood and the songs. HD6 are always smooth and always like the sound is controlled in my head , i have tried EQ them with different profiles and i didnt like any of themm because they lose their exceptional sound profile that i like , even the deep on low end is something that i used to and i like , anything else sounds strange to me .

your hearing is worse than a measurement rig's. A measurement rig isn't affected by emotion.
Say's who?
The Oratory Harmanish target?
And I don't know how he measures but the 650 doesn't have more extended bass.
I have both and I am A/B them right now.
I have headphones that are closer to Harman and to me sound worst , I also have EQ my HD 600 650 660 on this target and didnt like it ... My taste is my taste i guess ...:)
