Finally available in Italy and ordered! Can't wait to listen to the Hd660S! :)

I wish Sennheiser with the hd650 had taken the same approach they did with the hd800.

Many people loved the hd800 when it came out, but it had some issues that were corrected to some extent with the hd800s.

First of all, in my opinion, Sennheiser should have kept the same iconic name and just added the “S”.

Secondly, I wish they have tweaked the already good hd650 and made it better. So the result would have been a Sennheiser HD650S. A real improvement to the iconic HD650.

From what I am reading here. It looks to me that the the hd660s for its rather thinner presentation is somewhere in between the hd600 and hd700. Please correct me if I am wrong :)

Please do compare the 660 and 700 amartigano. I AM really curious because since the hd660 cost 499 and the hd700 can be bought for 469 i would like to know wich is the best value.

Meanwhile would you mind conparing the hd600 and hd700? Wich has more bass in terms of quantity and impact?
Ever Tried the hd650 as well?

Thank you

I've heard both, HD 700 and HD660S (I own 660S). HD660S is clear winner. I really hate that weird treble of HD700 - treble of HD660S is just great.
Thank you. Wich has more bass quantity and punch?
In terms of resolution and overall sound quality and detail they are on par or the hd660 is still the better headphone overall despite being a 6xx series?

Bass quantity and punch is very similar to HD 700 (tighter, more precise bass than 600 and 650) but overall HD660S is for me better headphone than HD700 (no weird peaks, more natural sounding).

You are wrong. But maybe they should have called it HD700S. Now we want the HD800 driver inside a HD6xx frame.

Hi Pedro! I see you have already answers to your question. I agree with the others, bass on the HD700 (vs hd600) is tighter, has better transient response, and still has impact. It's also more deep. Nevertheless the mid, mid-high and high response of the 700 is quite... "peculiar". Overall I like the 700 very much, but I understand who can not tolerate their strange behaviour in terms of timbrical accuracy.

You are wrong.

Haha! That’s very straight forward. I like your honesty :). I got very excited when I heard about the new hd660s. I have them in my radar for my next purchase. But I a little confused, trying to interpret everybody’s comments. I wish I could audition them before I place an order, but not posible in my area, at least for now.

From what little I've skimmed from this thread... I want em. Here's to hoping there will be a massdrop edition.

Failing that my birthday tends to happen every year, so there's always that approach.

I'm surprised Sennheiser decided to do a follow up on the 6xx series of headphones. I thought that the newer bionic styling of the 8xx and 7xx was the way forward, but I'm damn glad to be wrong here. (Also is it me, or has the 660S official replaced the HD650? I never expected to see them end production in my lifetime.)

I tried the HD800, didn't like the sound I was hearing or the design (via my Mojo). Never tried the HD600 or HD650 but wanted to try some headphones again and within days the HD660S was announced with 4.4mm balanced cable (for use with ZX300) so seemed impolite to resist! I was close to buying some 2nd hand Focal Elear.

Now for last few years 95% of my listening is with SE846 IEM's but wanted some headphones that wasn't worse as on occasion my ears can get painful with wearing IEM's for too long. I'm pleased to say the HD660S sound great to me. Not as good as my Shure SE846's but certainly getting close and better in some ways with them being open headphones. I didn't want them looking tatty so pleased they stopped the painted plastic look. Materials are nothing fancy but all seem well designed & functional. Compared to materials used for B&W P7W headphones they look cheap! But advantage is super light & comfy.

I sometimes think that once you get to a certain level its not really about one DAP/DAC/Cable/Headphone sounding better or worse. People just get bored and want to try a different flavour of sound, have excuse to spend some money on yourself or for bragging rights with newest expensive gear.

After brief reading it sounds that HD660 is not a clear upgrade/replacement to HD650/600. I was so tempted to get them, but now not so sure...
Hd600 are a so-good-compromise between key things, that any variation will be a bit of a sidegrade.
