@Deftone
Did you try HD600 and compared it with 660s? I found HD600 more full sounding for the hq compared with my previous HD650 where I noticed the highs are tamed for my liking.

Its been a while since ive had the 600 series together but It is slightly brighter than the 650 closer to 600, 660S treble has better clarity and detail while still being smooth.

SQ, sorry :)

Well, I almost got used HD660s used yesterday from ebay since I am the last guy who bid until the time elapsed. But suddenly when the bids end, there is another bid upper than me. Found that the phone got relisted again, there is something going on with the platform.

Hello guys! I recently got a Hd660s and really loving it. The mids on this is insane and everything is just so musical and engaging. The imaging is great but I wish that the soundstage was just slightly wider? If I ever want to upgrade from this, it will be like a hd660s with wider soundstage.

The smaller soundstage is one of the reasons its musical and engaging.

I'm still loving these headphones and put in listening to them from time to time even though I have a plethora of other cans to listen to.

if i love my hd 6xx/650, would the hd 660 be a good upgrade if i want a bit better soundstage/imaging, and a bit more bass and a tad more brightness?

does the hd 660 have a bit more bass and treble then the hd 6xx/650?

i i just recieved the lcd2 fazor 2 days ago in the mail and i love it but unfortunately i might have to return it and get something cheaper due financial family issues

please and thanks

You don't get more bass and larger soundstage but what you do get over 650 is better treble clarity and articulation, tighter controlled and faster mid bass, much better instrument separation, imaging and resolution is improved. Keep in mind that these improvements are small because it wouldn't have kept the rich sweet tonality of the 650 otherwise.

With that said all these improvements add up to an excellent upgrade imo. Your source files and dac will need to be of high quality to show you how spectacular these headphones truly are. 660S doesn't hide the ugly as much as 650 do.

Hmmm, it seems I get all of this with my 600. Or maybe because I am getting these because of the tube amp and the tube combo I am using. Will sure buy a backup for my 600 and will hit two birds in one stone by buying 660s in the near future.

If you have a decent amp (OTL or hybrid) I don't think the HD660S would be much of an improvement, more like a side grade with slightly different tuning. I've been using my slightly modded BH Crack with my HD650 and HD6XX and to me I'd take it any day over my friends HD660S but if I didn't have the BH Crack I'd take the HD660S over the HD650/6XX since it sound quite good with almost any device that I've tried them with. My only issue with the HD660S is it current price of $580, at this price I can get the HD6XX and a decent OTL amp + upgraded tube and to me its slightly better all around but for those that don't want to deal with amps/DACs the HD660S is my recommendation.

Imo DAC choice is much more important with 660 than it is with 650.
I found quite the opposite where the HD660S sounded quite good from a phone or computer headphone jack. Using various DACs and amps had little to very minimal effect on how good the HD660S sounded to me and my friend who owns it, unlike the HD650 or HD600 which are more dependent on amp choice in how they sound.

When i owned HD650 DACs had very minimal impact on the sound it was the amp that made the difference, with the 650 i was unable to hear the difference between a black and grey background where as on HD660S its easily audible. I didnt gain improvement in treble precision and detail either moving up to the Hugo2 on the 650 but with the 660 i did.
