did your guys' earpads soften over time? i just got a brand new pair yesterday and they sound amazing, but the earpads are a little hard. the in store demo pair had earpads that felt like butter and were super comfortable. How long should it take for them to soften up and be less hard?

I replaced mine after 4 years and i find the sound is amazing.
Pretty expensive for a pad though, but it's worth it.

I think mine felt broken in after about a month or so of regular use.

The softer they get the less likely they are to seal well. They should be firm for a while.

I regularly used mine for over a year and the pads never got soft enough to cause a seal issue.

I dont normally reduce volume digitally unless i have no choice. reduce signal digitally more often also reducing resolution.

The reason I asked is because the HD650 is ear-splittingly loud out of the Magni/Modi with the pot at 12 o'clock. I can't imagine listening at that volume unless the OP is dropping the signal down somewhere upstream in his system.

That's what I was thinking, the Mangi is quite the capable headphone driver, and could probably blow out some cheaper earbuds. The HD650 is listenable to at 60 on my Fiio E17, but I assume the Magni is a whole different ball game, I've been trying to get my hands on the Mangi/Modi combo here in Canada without paying 280$.

to everyone saying the 650 sounds "veiled" i actually find the complete opposite.... i find the 600 and 598 sound veiled and the 650 to sound super natural and open.

The pre-silver driver HD650 has always had a veil (I've used both and had the latter for the last year) and the HD650's with the silver driver are way different.

I don't have the 598 but I find the 600 and 650 sound really similar except for the better bass on the 650. How do you tell if you have a silver driver or not? I am hoping you don't have to take them apart to tell.

You should be able to tell if you put them in the light and look through the grill. The new ones have a brighter, silver driver, hence the name.
