Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Hi all,

Ive noticed a really small dent on the right side mesh of my 650's, the dent is a mm deep and about 1 cm long. What effect (if any) would this have on sound reproduction/quality? should I try and get the dent out?

Thanks for any advice.

Hello Senn 650 group,

Just got a pair last week- based on hearing them at an audio store.  Did not bring my own music so was stuck with their somewhat bright Diana Krall CD- loved the comfort and tone of the Senn's.  Was less excited by the AKG 702s, which to me sounded like the highs were "disconnected" from the rest of the music.

Not that I have the 650s the initial excitement is a bit tempered.  I love how the mids sound perfectly full without any midbass boost trickery and love the natural "one piece" aspect of the sound.

But I'm craving some more treble energy and some more dynamics- especially for classical music.  Finding myself having to go back to the Grado 225s for that.

Any amp recs to coax more treble sparkle and more dynamics from these high impedance cans?  Currently using the Dragonfly as a DAC and amp but willing to get something nice for the desktop.

Thanks!

Bryan

I've had the 650's for a couple weeks now. I'm using a nuforce icon hdp. It definitely gives the 650's a boost in treble and dynamics. I feel like I'm in the song. The pair gives a pretty smooth sound signature.

I also sold my grado sr225i's.

Shouldn't affect the sound in any way. You can carefully pop the grilles off, and push the dent out from the other side.

Listening to "The World's Greatest Audiophile Vocal Recordings" album (Chesky Records) on the HD 650.

HD 650 just excels so well at this kind of music. Simply

HD 555 sounds 90 percent identical to my hd 650. I don't think hd 650 is entirely worth its price anymore because of that.

In my opinion, while HD555 is a good sounding headphone, it just doesn't have the "it" factor of the HD650. Listening to HD555 almost never makes me feel like I am there with the musicians, while HD650 creates that illusion far more often. For me, the upgrade to HD650 is more than worth it for the increase in realism.

You could be feeling placebo. Before anyone tells me I may not have the right source for my 650s... I'm using Lehmann BCL with a seperate DAC. The BCL is known to be designed for sennheisers and especially the 650s.

I highly doubt it. The two headphones share a similar sound signature, but HD650 clearly has more depth to the soundstage, is more refined, more detailed, and has with a significantly tighter, better extended bass. I am sure I can distinguish between the two headphones and can tell which is which 100% of the time in a blind test.

But this is an hd650 appreciation thread and you post a video touting the hd600 is better.

Also, isn't the 650 already up on the Wall of Fame at IF, not the 600?
