Can someone give me a suggestion on how I do a minor upgrade on my HD 650's? I currently have an O2 + ODAC plugged into it. I really don't want to buy any new DAC or AMP for my phone just maybe a new cable that will improve the sound quality. Could someone suggest a cable or anything else that could possibly improve the sound for it.

Also has anyone had any experience with this cable (V2)? http://headphile.com/page4.html

Thanks!

I would highly suggest some new Monoprice cables. Or you can make a cheap HD-650 cable for fun. If you don't know how to solder you can learn from Youtube. The HD-650 connectors are only $20 or so. If you can't hear any difference with a DIY cable, some $200 pre-made cable is not going to be any different. Ok, maybe if it's silver, but that would change the 650 too much for me. No thanks.

The guy has an ODAC/O2 rig and you're mentioning a boutique cable? According to an earlier post in this thread introductory price for the Silver Widow will be "£195 for 6ft and £235 for 8ft". Lol, What?

I agree that a better amp should be in line before the extras....Then work on the details.

I'm sure the ODAC/O2 combo is more than adequate for the HD650. The guy did state there was nothing he disliked about his system. Seems like another person about to be swept away by the cable hype prevalent in this thread. For the introductory price of the Silver Widow he could just get another headphone to compliment the HD650 if he really wanted to spend those funds.

HD25-1 ii's or even DT1350's.....Get your portable on!

So i got LCD2's about a week ago.  Moved up from the absolute best value (IMO ofcourse) in headphones the HD650.
And  today i put the 650's back on for a few songs and holy crap not enough can be said about the comfort and overall lovelyness of their sound.
sure they don't pull out quite as much detail, or have the imaging and separation that the audeze does.  but damn, for their going rate on the used market, does it get better?

I think not!

funny it took me upgrading to gain another area of appreciation for these cans.  I need to sell them but my heart won't let me (its a hoarder).

Hey guys, I had a quick concern about the hd 650 they are brand new from amazon had them for only about 2 weeks  but I recently noticed that one of the earcups swivels or is alot more loose than the other. Do you guys have this as well ?

There's nothing I dislike about my system. I was just thinking there might be more that I can do to make them better. I have the extra cash to spare. Definitely not going to waste my money though if it's not going to improve it by that much.

As others have suggested, look into a tube amp like the Lyr or Crack. Rolling tubes in an amp like this can give that slight tweak in sound you may be looking for and if you don't go nuts on rare NOS stuff, they can be relatively affordable to play with. IMO this is a far superior strategy to buying a megabuck boutique cable. You can typically pick up a nice used Lyr for right around $350 and they synergize very well with the HD650. Although I understand that it's amazing with the Senns, the price of admission on the Crack is significantly higher.

The Crack is only $280 NEW as a kit, or $380 NEW already built, the Speedball upgrade is $125 I think, so it's not too bad at all.

What? Are you on crack? :) Where the heck are you finding it for $380 built??? I just got a quote from Bottlehead TODAY for a pre-built Crack + Speedball upgrade (the only way to go). Total damages? $784.00 plus shipping. Used they go for $500+ every day of the week. Sure, if you have time and some skill with a soldering iron you can buy the kit, but that's a commitment that not everyone is willing to make.

Hey Matt, not to derail the thread or anything, but what do you think of these Orange Globes:

I'm curious. :)

Hey, man he said he's happy with his amp/DAC I didn't ask what he had, so why not a bling cable?? :)

My brother have the ODAC and O2 for his 650.  He then replaced the amp/DAC combo with Lyr and Gungnir.  I had the opportunity to listen to the combo last Christmas eve.  No contest!  Not even close.  I should have brought my Bifrost to see how much difference the DAC makes.  I think I have the Mjolnir in my future, after I finish the prototype headphone amp I am making.

cheers!
