Like stated before, you'll need a balanced dac, amp, and recable. The cable termination may be 3 or 4 pin xlr dependent on the amp you have.

Yeah I understand I'd have to rebuild my chain. I just wanted to know what work needed to be done to the headphone.

Glad someone else feels the same.

I went with those as well. A few times since I've changed back to the stock cables kind of hoping I wouldn't hear a difference (because the stocks are 10' and easier to manage) but after a few minutes I've changed back again. The only way I can describe the difference is the old cliche of a veil being taken away. It's subtle, and I wouldn't like to pick it on a blind listening test, yet it's there. No cable of course can add treble, but a clearer view of the music gives the impression of more treble, or at least tempers the desire for more treble.

rockin out to some Stevie Ray Vaughn on my HD650's. sounds soooo incredible.

PS: HeadRoom's crossfeed and brightness switch are great. HD650 + HeadRoom Desktop Amp/DAC = Godlyness. I love it!

Interesting thread HERE discussing the HD650's scalability with better gear. As I've stated, I think the HD650 sounds great on my "entry level" setup and the hint I perceive of the HD650's true potential is enticing. The realm beyond is a Mordor-like nightmare of diminishing returns but the payoff sounds incredible. Must. Not. Succumb. Precious!

discussing the 650s scalability, and it isn't nearly 3 years old.

If you're referring to SP Wild's post I didn't get what he was on about and I still don't, so I let it pass. Maybe he'd had a bad day--we all have them

I just discovered a band called Animals as Leaders. It's a progressive rock band. Very technical stuff and the HD650 handled it very nicely.

I love the HD650 on the Concerto. It expands the soundstage wider and deeper (not higher) specially when the Crossfeed is on. Seems like the Concerto + HD650 is a great match.

Nice. Glad to see you're enjoying the combo. I also am a huge believer in crossfeed.

I think I actually prefer my HD650's with crossfeed over speakers.

These headphones have really broadened my listening horizons. I've been enjoying a flamenco/classical guitar internet radio station (streamed at 256kpbs) and have been constantly amazed at how natural it sounds.

They also excel at live recordings, where minute details are resolved in a natural way. Listening to Diana Krall's Live in Paris album late at night and hearing the shuffling of the audience was somewhat unsettling.

A classical guitar rendition of Strawberry Fields started playing while I was typing this. Oh. My. God.
