Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Anyone here compaired well the HD650 (with a good amplifier) with the NightHawk (with a good dac), I need a third opinion because to my ears (the NH is still in break in) the first combination sounds better, more dynamic and neutral. While the Mojo seem more "fun" but I am guessing is a made a good buy having already the HD650. Just for curiosity while I am still testing and burning it.
I use a BH Crack which is a decent/good pairing with the HD650 and tried the NightHawk a few months back, the NightHawk was not my cup of tea, a little to recessed in the upper mids / lower treble range for me. I've never cared for the Mojo since its a bit on the warmer side for the HD650 and NightHawk to me but for others it might be a great pairing. DACs used: Bimby, UD-301 and Bifrost Uber, Amps: BH Crack, Lyr2, Ember and Asgard2.

Well, I just confirmed that the Questyle QP1R will drive the Sennheiser HD 650s well.

I'm not sure what you are asking.
I have both the NH and the 650 using a good DAC and amps. Yggy > V281 or WA22.

I like both HP's. They are similar and different.

NH's are so Holograhic being a main difference.

Your Hawks take a bucket load of time to burn in. I suggest just letting them play for days and don't listen. They changed sooooo much during burn in.
I'm not a believer in burn in but the NH was obvious. Some talked about 50 hours however I noticed it took even longer.

It seems like the velour foam is tightly integrated with the 650's. I was able to scavange and save the actual foam without the velour inserts and glued them to the retention rings. Mids recessed a bit too much for my liking but clarity increased throughout and soundstage improved dramatically. Bass took a nosedive though. Probably going to switch back to the stock pads. It's a shame they cost so much ($50). The comfort on just the foam is a lot better. I think the stitching that holds the foam to the velour outer shell has to be stretched taught so it makes more contact with your ears for extended listening periods which can render the 650s uncomfortable. That "tightness" though is what I believe creates the better fit which allows the mid bass hump in the 650s to exist and the mids to sound more forward and intimate. I could be wrong but I believe pad changes are more dramatic then might be given credit for. In which, they're a lot cheaper mod.

FWIW. I'm selling off quite a few of my HP's, upgrading to a few TOTL's. Had the 650 up, thought about it and took it off quickly before someone made me an offer. Just don't know what got into me to even consider selling these. I've had them for quite a few years (can't even remember when I bought them new) and just cant even think about not having them in my collection. They still continue to be the least expensive IMHO TOTL headphones in the entire market. They just are in a league of their own and NOTHING in their price range (and some so much more pricey) can touch them. FWIW.
Merry Christmas to all! I wish everyone the best in the New Year!

I just received mine last week and like them quite a bit. No real burn in has happened yet.

Okay guys...LQi cables or Surf Cables? Do I get silver plated copper or copper only for aftermarket cables? For my HD650 headphones... Thanks.

I heard now they have HD 660 S, using lower impedence. I do not own hd 650 for now, but am looking at hd 598 C, hd 650 or 660, ath m70x.

I have ath m50x, hd 598 is a steal and closed loop, hence, I can bring out. What is the difference between m50x and hd 598 C and m70x? Should I try hd 650 or 660, which are open?

I have 598cs at work but they are not a touch on my 650's. Like both but always prefer open headphones. My wife has original 598's and they are nice but the 650 is such a leap above

One reason the HD660S is a good choice for many is that it sounds good/great on a wider range of gear compared to the HD650 so if you don't want to deal with amps then the HD660S is a no-brainer choice. If you are willing to go with a OTL tube amp like a BH Crack or other decent / good amp to me the HD650 is a touch better all around IMO.

I see, thanks a lot.
