HE500 is better
*in your opinion.
HE500 is better
I'll take an amp that makes me go WOW, over an amp that doesn't, every time. I could care less about the amp itself. Listening to music should be all about how it makes you feel. WOW is a feeling, and anything that helps me achieve my own personal WOW, is a good thing IMO. I'm not recording/producing the music so I don't need complete accuracy and neutrality. For those looking for an amplifier for the HD650, do you realize what the job of the amplifier is? It's not to make you go WOW!. It's to amplify the sound. It's job is not to change/color the sound. It's not to make the sound supposedly better then the input signal. The job is to just amp;ify the sound as it is. So why would you be looking for some esoteric expensive amp that has tubes and other stuff you don't need? Just find an amp that does the job. It will be with no tubes and it will be cheaper. You don't need an amp with DAC if your source already is a good DAC.
. Anybody try out or have owned very high end headphones and come back to the hd650?
Why do you consider the HE-500 better and for what genres? FWIW the weight of the HE500 is a problem for some like my GF who can only use them for 5-10 minutes before her neck gets sore and others like any of the Audeze LCD series is even worse.HE500 is better
I don't have anyone super high end stuff, I just listen to my music from spotify and Grace m9xx.Why do you consider the HE-500 better and for what genres? and don't forget that its your opinion as @Letmebefrank noted

He500 - the bass hits harder, and more impact. I also like the vocals better here.
We are talking about 2 great headphones here, so the improvement is not huge. For ME, I would grabbed my he500 first every time. I'm sure those of you who have way better amp and dac and source would have a different view on this matter.
And I would like to add more expensive. so i would expect them to sound better.*in your opinion.
Some might not like this suggestion but if you are looking for better sound stage and resolution then the HD700 would be my choice, Modi2/Vali2 will drive them okay for now but I like @cskippy suggestion to get the Mimby or Bimby since these would still be worthwhile over the long term. The only issue with the HD700 is its not forgiving with poorly recorded/mastered tracks so that needs to be considered alone with the genre of music you tend to prefer, and even the level that you listen at.What are some headphones worth checking out, which have a similar sound signature as the hd 650? Or would an amp upgrade (Modi 2 into Vali 2 currently) make a noticeable difference right now?
What im looking for in new cans is maybe a little wider soundstage and overall better resolution(If thats possible lol). But smooth sound signature is important.
I absolutely love them and just wanna know if I have something to look for
