Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Thank you! HD-650 is indeed my only headphone at the moment, and I have no intention of getting any in the near future. Would the heat of tube amps be an issue though? I live in Singapore, and I would use my amplifier for an entire day on weekends.

Looked at Garage 1217 amps as well, but I'm not sure about their open design... Dust might be an issue!

I have a Polaris and it catches dust, indeed, but there is no problem, it works like a charm.

Does anybody have some cable replacement recommendations? I like to use my laptop in a chair on my lap so the current set up just leaves WAY too much slack. 3.5 to 3.5 from laptop to amp is like 4 feet and then the headphone cable is like 8 feet and then that bulky 1/4 adapter to 3.5. Is there any cheap (but reliable. I read cheap pins can break inside the headphones after taking in and out multiple times) that are shorter and terminates directly to a 3.5? I lot of the cords I see are from China so wanted to get some input before pulling the trigger.

Ebay is not all bad, I've had the HD-700 and Hifiman SMC versions of this one:

the other place is Luna Shops, about the same prices and decent quality.  if you go up in price a little you can get some Mogami or Canare cables made to your specific length for about $50-70 which is not bad since the price of the parts alone would be 60-70% of the cost.

PETEREK here on the threads does great work but it might take a while as he is loaded with orders but his stuff is really nice.  There is even a thread with his work here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/779584/peterek-formerly-ccaspertfg-mod-cable-thread

Building your own cable is another even cheaper way if you plan to get anymore headphones, once you have the tools.

Finally bought a great pair of headphones that didn't hurt my head! It's on the way here and it should arrive tomorrow, but I just discovered that my Topping DAC/amplifier can't really run the HD650. So I'm here to try and get some recommendations for a DAC/amp that can do what I need.

I'm currently using two sources - my PC and a turntable (which I already have a phono pre-amp for), which means that the DAC/amp I get would need a USB input as well as RCA inputs. That way I can easily swap between my two sources, without having to unplug stuff.

My budget is about $300 - $350 though, so I've gone through the recent posts to look at some budget set-ups and narrowed my options down to:

- Aune T1SE
- Aune X1S
- Matrix Audio HPA-2 Classic
- Schiit Magni + Modi + SYS

Might exclude the T1SE actually, since I tend to leave my amplifiers on for a long time when I game on weekends. Heard that tube amps can get really hot. Any views on my shortlist, or suggestions for other options?

Try to find used Asgard 2. I found one for $150

Do you monitor every thread just waiting for a cable mention to advertise? I have seen you do this so many times. It must be a fulltime job.

What you so is wait until a chance to advertise comes along. Headfi already has a method of advertising, why not pay like all other companies for the ability to do so?

OK, that's good. If we had everyone that wants to sell us something offering to do so in every thread like they do this would not be a fun place. Threads are for discussion and advice, we don't need anymore advertising.

I am mobile and don't see the sigs.

Ah I saw your ebay page. Lovely made cables! Unfortunately out of my price range even with the generous 20%. I was looking to spend 30-40 max.

Thank you, and no worries. There are several third party options available within your budget.

I bought this one, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Replacement-Cable-For-Sennheiser-HD414-HD430-HD650-HD600-HD580-headphone-/281645092022?var=&hash=item41935b0cb6:m:mtZMuMijDUrlNJ_hKZKwgyg

Good build quality, works as good as the stock one. Don't spend more.
