Well, if you're implying that the 650 are even in the same ball-park as equivalently priced Grados in terms of design flaws, then

 indeed, lol.

It depends on the music to which you listen... horses for courses. Leo Kottke's "6-and-12 String Guitar" with Grado is an inspiring head-fi experience.

Grados are basically the headphone equivalent of Mr Burns having so many diseases they all got stuck in the doorway. Grados are full of so many flaws they sort of come together in the end as something a lot of people enjoy.

Nevermind, I misinterpreted what you meant by that. Yes, I'd probably get lynched for that comment by Grado fanboys hahaha. Truth hurts I suppose.

Picked up a pair of the px100-ii after reading they were like mini HD650s. I have to say for $45 they sound fantastic. They definitely have that sennheiser house sound. The Soundstage is more than I was expecting, and the details/clarity is pretty nice. If anyone is looking for some nice portable senns with that signature sound, these are it.

Best budget amp pairings, whatcha guys got nowadays? I'm using an old Yulong U100 Amp/DAC but looking to upgrade the amp finally. Been out of the game for a while. What's the best for the money?

Agree with you on the "horses for courses", for me its "using the right tool for the job".  For some genres the Grado is my choice, more so since I've modded all of mine.

For the price of a HD-650 (using $300) this would be the 325e at around the same price and I would not get the 325e, tried it and its too bright for me.  The sweet spot to me is the 225e at $200, easy to mod and it will get close to the the HD-600/650 and for some they might actually like it better

I tried some high end Grado's once because the guy was saying they are HD 800 killlers. Well, I put them against the HD 600 and the cheap HD 600 clearly won. I couldn't believe Grado asks so much money for their headphones.

So I'm staying away from Grado headphones. They are overrated according to my ears.

My son has just recently got into listening with headphones and he has bought a HD650.

He seems to really like it.

I have owned the headphone twice thru my head-fi adventures.

Only bad thing is, when I come home from work, he is listening to them with my amp

My wife and I are going to have 2359glenn make him a nice OTL for his birthday.

The HD650 is a work horse of a headphone and as long as he owns one, maybe I can sneak a listen in here and there.

Definitely one of the best bangs for the buck out there.

Your son is a lucky SOB!

It's definitely a workhorse. I bounce between them and my HD700s depending on what I'm in the mood for.

Grady's have such a bizarre, extreme sound signature. So bright, so tinny, so tilted towards high frequencies. They're not especially comfortable either.

I've owned the egrado's, igrado's, 60e's ad 80e's. I sold them all.

I've listened to their higher end stuff. The only pair I liked was the PS500. The RS-1 was the first headphone I ever listened to where I went "how do people like this??"

But apparently many do, so eh.

should try the PS500e, its not like most Grados, it has bass and is very full sounding, IMO its better than the HD-600/650, its easy to drive and with G pads have better sound stage and are comfortable enough and stay cool to use for a few hours at a time, but they are also $600

I look at the lower end 60e to 225e as good start for modding, agree stock they are unique and not favorite of many but after doing simple mods they can be transformed into really good sounding headphones for very cheap.

I confess: I haaaaate Grado pads. They don't even feel like pads. They feel like those age old headphone POS covers that we wore in the late 80s. Sure they have soundstage, but that's only because the things don't have anything resembling a seal.
