Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Very often, the boosts on amps are a little too high for the Senn. Solderdude's Kameleon boosts the very low end, from 20 (or perhaps even lower, I think) and actually lowers the mid bass hump so that it becomes even right down to the basement.

For me, the very low bass is the hd650's biggest weak area, although I know many feel that the top needs opening up, but I'm actually fine with the treble tbh.

Yes, every time I listen to the lcd's I seem to like them less. Few things have happened recently. A new tube amp has arrived and I've upgraded cables but overall I agree with iancraig the senns. Just sound better. If my lcd's sounded as good as look they'd be hard to beat.

I like both LCD 2 and HD650 for different reasons. Though i think some people are disliking a bit the lcd2, maybie because its strong point is not smooth vocals or slow passed music of any tipe, which the HD650 excels more. IMO

The LCD2 is very good for electronic/fast passed music and for those who are really passionate by it. Having speed and slightly dark sound is what you want for those genres. And the edge which @retskrad refered above is ideal for that tipe of music too because it pumps some good energy in it. IMHO There are other plannars like lcd-x, he500, fostex 900 good for electronic too.
Quite a few people have said that.

I do agree. The HD650 is excellent and do were the old hd580s and the one before. I forget it's number, but there was an older Senn that was terrific. Even the old hd414 was good.

Senns have always been very reliable as far as quality of sound goes.

+1

I guess it's just what you're wanting in a headphone.

I listen to a very wide range of music and sources ranging from DAPS to studio playback systems and from low res mp3 to 24 bit files at home, so for me, a wide range of sounds is very useful if I'm honest.

The he560 appeals to me for maybe a slight 'ear rinse' in coparison to the hd650. It might give a nice contrast. I like the th900 for that as well.

+1, for me its a TH-600

Iancraig, I'm very selective with the music I listen to on the 800's. Also only match them with a tube amp. I've got the entire hd line so I can be selective with the type of music I listen to with each phone. I feel that way I'm getting the best out of each.

+1, I only listen to well recorded music with the HD-800 and only with my BH Crack.

I can listen to most anything with the HD800 and my OTL, and it sounds wonderful, as does the HD650.....but the HD800 is a different level of sound for me.....much bigger, more dynamic, can also be very lush and warm with the right tube combo....just a much bigger sound.

That being said, I will still work my way thru my  library with both cans

I just pulled the trigger  on a pair of 650s after having sold my old ones a while back. I should have listend to people back then when they said I would get them again. I have tried a dozen different types of cans since then and still cant find one that to my ears sounds as good with all types of music as the HD 650s.

I have the same two headphones but I have to say that overall I like the HD650 more mainly because to me, it is much more comfortable to wear and I am not giving up that much in the music reproduction.

Not seeing the HD650 deal on Adorama, shows $500 when I search.

Been looking around for a good price for (new) HD650 but it's been hard to find them below $380-400 recently... $300 (w/ free s+h) is a heck of a deal

I have Concero HP for my dac/amp.
I was wondering if that's a good combo for HD 650?
If I am to go the tube amp route, what would be decent dac/amp for preferably around <$500 range with similar dac performance as Concero HP?

You could pair your Concero's DAC with another amplifier. Garage1217 makes incredible amps for the money. I really enjoy the HD650 + Ember II combo.

Man, $299 for a new pair?  I just bought mine here from a member used for $320.  If you don't HD650's yet you'd be crazy not to snatch up a set.
