i dun mind the plastic, just dun like the paint chipping off :p

+1 ... I've seen so many pics of chipped paint that I think about it every time I set my 'phones down anywhere but in a stand.

One thing I like about my Grados is the ability to rotate the cups flat onto my desk to set them down.

Room for improvement, Sennheiser...

I have used my HD600/650 for donkey years and as I've never thrown them or drop them, the paint has never cracked. When not in use I just put them in a simple IKEA plastic box that costs just a couple of dollars. I believe the box is called the Samla and the larger one can store two headphones. In fact Samla boxes are even stackable - good for your collection as it grows.

Good tip... I have fewer sets of cans than you, from what I can see

I was more referring to the case of setting them down to refill my glass, but your solution looks like a great idea for headphone change-over.

Dunno, I had my HD600 for almost 15 years with no single scratch on them.

Head's up!  New HD650's are going for $313.99 on Amazon right now!

I just bought a pair!  So stoked about this!  I've been jonesing for another pair for a while now (I used to own a pair a few years back but had to sell them).

Don't know how long this price will last for but it's the cheapest I've ever seen a new pair be sold directly by Amazon for.

Now's the time if (like me) you've been on the fence about picking up one of the true classics of high-end headphones.

I'm sure it's already been posted, but Adorama currently has the HD 650 going for $313.99 as well. There's free three-day shipping and no sales tax for states outside NY/NJ

Smart... all that time I spent traveling in Asia and never thought about keeping those bags. Lesson learned...

Did I miss the boat?  The price is currently $409.00 on Adorama.

My Amazon order is still pending and can still be easily canceled.

I would love to not have to pay CA tax on them.

Unfortunately, I think you did because I saw the same thing. In that case, I wouldn't cancel your order even though the extra sales tax does suck.

My V-Moda M-100's are allegedly near indestructible. My pair are broken.

Do You consider the M-100 as a worthy closed portable alternative for the HD650?
I am looking for an office (closed) and on the road rig but with similar sound signature as my HD650.

Focal Spirit Professional or NAD Viso HP50.
