Afaik SPL Auditor doesn't pair well with HD650.

Nope, I owned them both for a year, they were an excellent combination. Why would you think they don't pair well? The Auditor was designed for studio work and was rock stable and could swing voltage really well, and in general loved high impedance headphones. For the record I would even consider getting an HD650 again because I know they are indeed a really high return on investment headphone (if you don't pay too much). For around $349-399, great deal, more than that and there are several very good contenders out there. So many good headphones now and so many house sounds to experiment with, certainly more than when the 650 broke onto the scene and redefined just how good an affordable headphone can be.

Read somewhere on head-fi, not my experience. Obviously not all we read here is true, as opinions can be highly subjective.

Thank you didn't want to buy something wouldn't power them, greatly appreciated

You're welcome... I have Chord Hugo which does the same job but it's a lot more expensive. Furutech sounds very good for its price, warm and detailed.

No worries, and I'm sure for some they might actually feel that way about the combination, but I can't see how? Each to their own as they say. Cheers.

Just have to poke my head in and say how much I absolutely adore my 650's.  I've had them for about 4 years now, and they still absolutely blow me away with their precision.  Best pair of headphones I've ever bought in my life.  I use ATH-M50's at work, and while they're nice and don't require an amp, coming home after a long day to throw on the 650's being run by a Schiit audio Bifrost DAC to a Valhalla tube amp, I can't describe the feeling other than pure bliss.  The DAC is a relatively new implementation in my setup as I was running a NuForce Icon for a while as both an amp and DAC, then the Icon into the Valhalla.  Now its straight Schiit and wow, the 650's shine.  Anyways, just wanted to come in and let a few of my impressions go.  I listen to almost exclusively electronic music and nothing has come close to the 650's in terms of clarity and precision as well as overall balance.

Wow... great price.  I wonder if that means a replacement is coming from Senn?

After (unintentionally...) derailing another thread talking about these headphones, I thought I might ask a question here.   How dramatic is the effect that the HD650's curved impedance plot creates with a high output impedance amplifier like the Bottlehead Crack?  The curve should mean that the highs are brought out and the mid-bass increases, but I am struggling to find an answer for how dramatic the effect is.

Why not the Meridian Explorer? https://www.meridian-audio.com/en/collections/products/explorer-1000/4/

You will need to buy the camera adapter cable separately, however.

Explorer is very good, I had it but I'm not sure if it works with iDevices and even if it does, it will drain the battery of the device as it doesn't have its own battery. This is not ideal. Explorer is best used with PC and Mac.
