Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I hate to asdmit it 'cause I thought I was being hardcore to prefer the 600's.
in fact I use my new 650's way more but I do see /hear the sound the 600's make but with the Cardas cable not the Equinox which work for me on both 580's and 650's but somehow the Cardas cable with the 600's do make a more linear yet not boring full sound. I think the 580's are one of the best buys in headfi audio and my Predator never cease to amaze me. It's off the topic but I love my Predator.

is it bad for the foam behind the earpads to touch the crap on the other side of the foam? Like do I need to take a piece of tape and pull the foam out a littl ebit towards my ears to keep it separate?

Is it possible the HD650 drivers need to break in before I get good bass impact?

Hey regal, what tubes are you using in your Bijou? I have found the jj and phillips(recent make) 6922/ecc88 to be pretty docile and soft, for lack of a better word. I've found the amperex white label 6dj8 are significantly more punchy and edgy than the aforementioned 6922/ecc88's. Though my k701's have inherently tight bass, the bass and lower-trebel is noticeably more impactful with the amperex 6dj8. However I do find that the overall sound of the amperex 6dj8 to be a bit grating on 701's. Perhaps a better match with the so-called "dark" hd650?

PS: eager to hear if a weeks time has had any effect on the bass impact

Strongly considering joining the HD650 club in my lust for more bass

I love my new 650's... Right now they sound pretty darn good coming out of my iPod and RSA Tomahawk. But I hear them crying out for a decent tube amp. Time for a LD MKIVse.

Must be something going around. I ordered a pair from J&R this afternoon as well. Assuming they get here by early next week, I will have the DT880s, HD600s and HD650s here all at the same time.

Two of these sets will have to go back, though. Otherwise I risk becoming the headfi-equivalent of a crazy cat person.

With KH-K1000, I recently received HD580. I upgraded HD580 to HD600 (with HD650 stock balanced cable and grills.)

Listening with balanced beta22, I concluded that while HD580(600) are different and truly reference ones, they are still inferior to HD650s in many areas.

I highly suggest every HD650 owners to get balanced system.

There's a plastic guard behind the foam that keeps it from touching the delicate driver. Unless you've modded that plastic piece you have nothing to worry about.

Ya well at 280 after rebate from an authorized dealer, I wouldn't be surprised if we have a pandemic on our hands
