I have a Hippo case from Jaben and one of those Large Headphone Cases off Fleabay, and use them to transport my big cans when I fly.   If you get the case without a foam insert, you can put your DAP sandwich in there as well (my iPod Classic/CLAS -R/Conti V3 stack fits).

This might seem like a stupid question but is there a single part of the HD650 which can't be bought as a replacement part? On the official Senn site, you can buy everything for around 240 pounds. What's missing? The driver? Does the Neodymium Capsule not include the driver, just the housing?

Edit: I think I've now answered my own question. I see that the drivers are available with a phone call but not directly via the website. Still, even with two drivers included, it seems you can put together a brand new set of headphones for cheaper than buying them new. Or am I mistaken?

This post has been edited to avoid confusion. It appears that you can get a full set of headphones, via replacement parts, for £160 cheaper than buying a full set.

By my quick calculations, everything available on the site comes to £238.65.
 
This includes cable, 2 x dynamic neodymium capsule (Edit: update - this IS the driver), ear pads & 2x foam disc (discs come 'free' with pads), 2 x grill replacement, headband, headband padding & jack adapter.
 
 
Edit: I've just spoken to a guy from Senn UK on the phone. The 'dynamic neodymium capsule' IS the actual driver so, by my reckoning, you can have yourself a pair of brand new HD650s for £240. Is there anything missing from this? Presumably, warranty is an issue, but that aside, this seems pretty significant.
 
I asked whether this capsule was, in fact, just the housing and he said that no, the driver comes in the housing but you probably wouldn't need that and so could simply pop out the driver 'lolly' and swap it straight into your phones.

I recently did the same with my old HD600...
 
This is what I paid:
 
1) Pair of replacement drivers (HD580/HD600 300R, complete assembly with capsules) is $116.90. 
2) Pair of OEM earpads w/ foam discs is $42.80 ($51.93 now on website).
 
Total: $159.70.
 
So I only needed this to effectively replace the headphones:
 
3) Sennheiser OEM (HD650) headband w/ padding - $139.00 on eBay.
4) Sennheiser cable (HD650) - ~$25 ($30.90 now on website).
5) Sennheiser grills (HD650) - ~$20.
 
Total: $343.70

I get £721.78, for two drivers, complete headband, pads & cable, minus special male connection plug and case.
 
I got excited until I realised I'd forgotten to add the headband.
 
Still, it's a fair bit better than £999.99.
