You'll get them, holidays you know. Please post your thoughts on them!A fellow headfi member sent them, but USPS seems to have not scanned the package into the system. I really hate the postal service.
I have the Massdrop 6xx..basically the 650’s. I almost find the sound a little too relaxing. Maybe I just like a more analytical headphone but there are moments in music you know are there that just kind of have a linear approach to the execution. They’re almost too warm for me. True, bass is improved. But I miss the vocal forwardedness of the HD600s. Response is better and tighter on these but all the music feels like it’s in a line with no depth. Width is improved slightly as well; though I had no expectations for a major increase in this area. I can listen to these all day but they lose neutrality for me in the added warmth. This for me isn’t as satisfying. Thoughts?
My HD6XX sounds different from my HD650 (a few others have also noticed this) and the difference is enough that even friends that are bad at telling some headphones apart can hear the difference. After 150+ hours they didn't get better or open-up or what ever some say happens (which is a good thing) since its a touch brighter, bass is extended lower and not as muddy (a touch less mid-bass bump) than my HD650 which probably has 500+ hours on them. Even with a pad swap they keep their individual sounds and the differences are still there.Yes I totally agree with you, to my ears there is a definite difference between the HD6XX and HD650 as you described. While in New York last week I had a chance to compare the HD660S and HD650 but I really would have liked to compare the HD6XX with the HD660S. Although I haven't had too much of an opportunity to listen to the HD6XX so as to familiarize myself with it's sound signature, there appears to be some similarity between the HD6XX and HD660S. To me the HD6XX sits somewhere between the 650 and 660S.
It's still puzzling to me that the HD6XX doesn't sound identical to the HD650. I wonder what Sennheiser did to the HD6XX to give it a slightly different character.
hd650 is an old design that hasn't changed in a decade + years...and it seems like your dac was no entry machine when it came out, you should be good. And if you want something "new".. Check out the Audio-GD 11.28 vs R2R Thread here, either one of those amps will fill the need/want for that itch.Good day everyone,
I just purchased an HD 650 and I currently run it out of a Burson DA160 DAC + Burson Soloist AMP.
I'm wondering if anyone knows of an amp that is $500 or less that would be an upgrade?
Thanks!
I have to agree with @JKDJedi that your current amp is quite good and I wouldn't really bother but if you want to go over to tubes the BH Crack is my favorite amp under $1000 for the HD650. Just remember that the basic BH Crack can be had for $300 on-sale but the tubes will cost a bit so the total price might fall somewhere north of $500. Another amp that I like to use with the HD650 is a Project Ember and its a much more versatile amp and rolling tubes is much cheaper since it only involves 1 tube, accepts a wide range of tubes, and good ones are not very pricy.Good day everyone,
