Sennheiser HD250 Linear Impressions Micro-Thread

I haven't, as I'm seeking this specific flexible inner section which is anchored to the sliding clips on both sides of the outer headband and thus also forms part of the height adjustment... Several Sennheiser models from the period had the same headband assembly so I've been keeping my eyes out on the Bay without success thus far, I may try cutting a similarly matching piece of leather

Search for hd520, hd530, hd 540, hd 560 spares, cheap ones for the part otherwise there was a similar bigger size headband on the early models that is the same as hd430, hd 220, hd 230 headband, would also fit. Just get a pair for spare parts, only option left today

I have a spare of yet another broken pair but it's for Linear I. I'll PM

Hi, sad to see nobody active here. Am just trying luck here. Cayin IHA 6 coming soon and was wondering if anyone tried high ouput with IHA6 and HD250 Linear 1 regardless 300 ohm or 600 ohm. Just wanna see some heads up impression here.

The IHA 6 drives the hell out of the AKG K340, which is significantly harder to drive than my 300 ohm Linear 1, so I'm sure it will do well with the HD250.

I prefer ZMF dynamic driver headphones out of the 10ohm jack, so you might want to try both that as well as the 120 ohm jack and see which sounds best to your ears.

Oh hello again. Anyway, so how do you find for 100 ohm or 10 ohm jack for the HD250 Linear 1 300 ohms of yours ? Yes, will try all 300 and 600 ohms of mine. As well as 32 ohm or even 16 ohm. Though 16 ohm is overkill af.

I do not own the IHA 6. The unit I had was a review loaner and I did not try the HD250 on it as I've tried the Sennheiser on many amps and I strongly prefer it off of a good tube amp, as I mentioned way back when in my video review. I still feel the same way.
Still, the Cayin should be able to provide the HD250 with plenty of power.

You dont like on a solid state ? Well for Cayin, its mostly about the ouput impedance to me. Flexibility.

I like the HD250 on solid state. I just like them more on a tube amp.
The Cayin is quite versatile and can drive verything from a low impedance/ high sensitivity headphone up to the Susvara, and everything in between.

Enjoy, and let us know how you like the pairing.

Sure. But do you find on solid state, sound stage feels flat and dry ? Sub bass unable to rumble ?

If you still have that, would you happen to have a spare cup? Fairly recently, the (I thought) seemingly invincible Senn plastic on my pair cracked at the hinge. They still sound beautiful though, and I'd really like to replace the cup if you or anyone else has a spare.

Swapped earpads on my Linear 1 from stock to some sheepskin pads from ebay. All you have to do is reach your fingers under the old pads from the inside and pull off - they'll unclick from the bezel. Try to spread out the load with maybe 2-3 fingers so as to not tear the old pads if concerned.

To remove old rings attached to the pads, I'd advise to pull the rings out of the front (opening that faces your head) slowly just starting on one side. Pulling them off the back side is too tight and you may tear the stock pads in attempting that. It may also help to soak the old pads in warm to hot water for a few minutes to loosen up. Wet things are often also stronger and more resistant to tearing.

There may be such details on the board, but it's a lot to go through.

The sheepskin pads are quite nice. I'm not concerned about sonic changes at this time and can always reinstall the originals if desired.

Bit of a scare earlier when the HD250 Linear I's sounded like they had a blown channel after clearing out foam bits and putting the ear pads on. Faint output on one side and crackly. Luckily, after taking them apart and putting them back together, these now work normally. Of course, I tested impedance per side, and also tested output once the driver was removed, where I found that it worked fine while removed. No idea what happened or what may have shifted with the ear pad work or cleaning. Obviously, be careful when cleaning out foam around drivers.

So here's the rest of the details on disassembly, since I was unable to find anything specific in the way of posts, pictures, or videos related to disassembly.

To remove the drivers after removing ear pads (ear pads detailed in my prior post):

1. Optionally pop the driver housing (cup) off of the headband by just pulling straight out with sufficient force. It's simply a plastic ball socket deal. The rest is easier of course when the headband is out of the way.
2. Remove the silver ring by using fingernails to leverage it off. Thumbnail on the housing and index or other nail on the ring is what I found to work best for me. You'll have to unsnap it by working around the perimeter after the first area starts to separate (may pop loose). You or your S.O. may break some nails in the process. Mostly kidding... it wasn't assembled by Hercules and they aren't glued in from factory.
3. Remove the plastic driver holder/surround assy from housing (cup) in similar fashion by using fingernails. Don't worry about the driver, wiring, or any other major parts coming loose - they're all together in the assembly. Maybe you could do this without removing the metal ring first but no idea. There's just a small black plastic doodad at the back end which will be separate and another felt disc once driver assembly separates from the main housing.

Wish I would have taken pictures but was in a frenzy to determine whether this pair was shot. There wasn't any foam behind the drivers on mine to go bad, just the felt type of ring similar to what's on the front side. So I don't see much reason to remove the drivers unless you have a similar problem or have to swap drivers. If you use a can of keyboard duster or similar light air pressure, you should be able to carefully blow out any degraded foam from around the front side without worrying about disassembly. I had quite a bit of degraded foam and didn't notice any remaining in the back after cleaning these earlier without pulling drivers off.

There's also no point in taking the badge off the outside of the housing unless yours are loose. If so, you may want to glue them down while disassembled. They have a couple of metal pins that are bent over on the back side to keep them in place. One of mine was slightly loose so I tried futzing with that thinking there may be a screw or something behind them early on. Nope. Anyway, it won't be loose anymore.
