Sennheiser HD250 Linear Impressions Micro-Thread

Here are the photos of my HD-250 Linear-1 (600 ohm version).

It sounds like nothing else in my collection. Very detailed...

I have used black boot ties for the coverage of the wires above the Y splitter (which is tube shrink actually).

You can see yellow colored blu-tac beneath the Acrolink connectors.

Earpads are 105mm diameter AKG K240 earpads (pleather or fake leather, bought from Aliexpress).

Cable is Canare Star Quad (21 awg copper, 4 separate wires).

Jack is Amphenol 3.5mm gold plated stereo.

I keep the original foam discs beneath the earpads acoustic cloth.

That 1mm may be the difference between staying in and falling out.
I am perfectly unsure of that. Because the original connectors pin shapes are so much different! Actually the pin shape has to do the something for the locking mechanism as well (apart from depth and width of the hole).

On the photo I have marked the depth difference. Acrolink brand connectors are less then a mm shorter in depth so difference is very small. I prefer them to stay this way. Thanks for suggestions @lantian !

Side view clearly shows that the original pins are flat whereas the Acrolink and other brands are round shaped. Also one of the pins on the original one has a wider shape. Teeth shapes are also slightly different.

Guys, sound-wise in which price category do you put the HD250 Linear-1?

Below or above 1000USD ?

Imagine they made them with wood cups and a magnesium frame. People would be saying they were some mystical headphones crafted in the Himalayas by 1000 year old yogis.

I wouldn't mind in the future trying to slap these into a woody version for kicks. It's drivers would have more voluminous home to show the layers.

And people, stop hyping these cans and raising prices LoL

You've elevated the 600ohm prices

Have the same pads for my 250. Find these are the only ones that come close to stock.

Above. Compared to those the whole headphone market is rigged.

But without a doubt by far the hardest to drive dynamic can i know that can fall of really hard when not enough power. The K1000 needs more power yes but it still sounds okay with lower power while the HD250 can sound like ass with the wrong setup.

Is there any way how to tell the 300ohm and 600ohm versions

It's minted on the cups - see attached pic... plus on the rim, inside the cups

Unfortunately it seems that the pair i am interested in shows no ohm-indication on the cups as seen in your picture.
I'm not sure, but I think I've read that there also exist not signed pairs of 300 Ohm, and the only way to positively know their resistance(other than measuring, of course) is to open the cups and check the signing on the inside rim. As it is, I did this out of curiosity on one of my supposedly 600 Ohm phones (250 or 540, not sure which) and the signing was not minted clearly enough.
Anyways, all this is not relevant now, unless the seller is a trustworthy person, knows for sure and he can tell you.

Heads Up::

Somebody is selling a pair of NEW Linear II EAR PADS on eBay. The guy is a very nice and trustful fellow and this is a second pair of identical new pads he's selling (I myself bought from him the first one approx. a month ago) and ships internationally. My pair has already arrived and it not only looks like new, but also "feels" well preserved like one - the foams, the pleather etc..). Since this is no guarantee about this one, but only an indication, it would perhaps be a good idea to specifically ask, as I did..

Link to the sale on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/184974237370

Full Disclosure:
1. I do not personally know the guy, except from our eBay transaction, as I wrote, so no guarantee from my side...
2. He's not aware of this mail (unless he's a member of this forum..) but then I guess he would have advertised the sale here, or at least on the "Classifieds" on Head-Fi if he was. Not that it matters much, since it's an auction anyways...

Good luck to everyone interested :)
